    New Liberty Christian
    plans Bible school
    Vacation Bible school is scheduled for Monday, July 11 through Friday, July 15 at New Liberty Christian Church, according to a news release.
    The Friday session will include a 5 p.m. cookout at the Taylorsville State Park.
    The program for the week will be called “Hometown Nazareth,” directed by Lisa Ingram.
    Classes will be held from 6 to 9 p.m.

    I’ve recently discovered the secret to getting rid of internal turmoil and stress — I’ve stopped listening to news talk radio and political talking heads shows on TV.
    Instead, I listen to my iPod — music and podcasts of sermons and science, food and history. It’s amazing how my inner agitation and anxiety has gone way down, and I haven’t missed a thing. I still know what’s going on in the world — I do work for a newspaper — without having to endure all the yelling.

  • National Society of Collegiate Scholars welcomes local student

    Erin Shields of Lawrenceburg has accepted membership in the National Society of Collegiate Scholars.
    Shields will be honored during an induction convocation this fall on the Murray State University campus, according to a news release.
    NSCS is a member of the Association of College Honor Societies and is the nation’s only interdisciplinary honors organization for first- and second-year college students.
    Membership is by invitation only, based on GPA and class standing.

    The family of the late Mr. and Mrs. William B. Brown had its annual reunion June 25 at Fairview Christian Church Fellowship Hall.

    Lauren Milburn of Lawrenceburg and Adam Beasley of Lawrenceburg were married June 18, 2011, at 5 p.m. at the River Stone Resort in Pigeon Forge, Tenn.
    Parents of the bride are Joey and Erin Milburn of Harrodsburg. Parents of the groom are Jr. and Donna Beasley of Lawrenceburg. Curtis Hill officiated.
    The bride was given in marriage by her father. The flower girls were the bride’s nieces, Harper and Eliot Fredericks. The ringbearer was son Noah Beasley.

    July 6, 1961
    Andrew Bird, Anderson County’s new school superintendent, was given the oath of office. Former superintendent Mrs. C.T. Ward and former Director of Pupil Personnel Ezra Sparrow were presented gifts in ceremonies at the superintendent’s office later that afternoon.

    Clusters of small tomato-like fruit appeared in a patch of Irish Cobbler potato vines in the garden of Marion Peach on Court Street.
    Peach said very few potatoes were in the patch. A cluster of the tomatoes was placed in the News window.
