  • Horse show to benefit 4-H Club

    The Saddles N Spurs 4-H Club will sponsor the September horse show at the Waddy Ruritan Grounds, the club announced in a news release.
    The show is scheduled for 6 p.m. Sept. 17.
    Proceeds from the show will benefit the club.
    All classes will pay back for first through third places.

  • Birth: Angel Dawn Piatt

    Angel Dawn Piatt
    Todd and Kimberly Piatt of Lawrenceburg announce the birth of their daughter, Angel Dawn Piatt, born Aug. 5, 2011, at Franklin Regional Medical Center.
    She weighed 8 pounds and 7 ounces and was 20 inches long.
    She was welcomed home by her two sisters Christa and Taylor Piatt.
    Her maternal grandparents are David Kinder and the late Vickie Kinder of Lawrenceburg. Her paternal grandparents are Owen and Brenda Piatt of Midway.

     

  • Anniversary: Cole

    Pam (Wright) and Bill Cole of Lawrenceburg will celebrate their 35th wedding anniversary on Sept. 1.
    Parents of the couple are Warren and Shirley Ivey of Lexington, the late Jimmy Wright, and Rollin and Jeanette Cole of Lawrenceburg.
    Pam is the executive director at The Lantern at Morning Pointe in Frankfort. Bill is an electrician at Quad Graphics in Versailles.
    They were married on Sept. 1, 1976, at the Assembly of God Church in Midway. The late Rev. Raymond Eyer officiated.

  • BLOG POST: Don't help me get on the bandwagon bashing UK

    Sorry, but I can’t be on the bandwagon with what seems to be nearly every other media outlet in the nation in getting up in arms over the Media Relations Department at the University of Kentucky mistreating a reporter for the Kentucky Kernel, the on-campus student newspaper.

    To read some of the comments from my colleagues in the media, UK Associate Athletics Director for Media Relations DeWayne Peevy barred Kernel reporter Aaron Smith from covering Kentucky Wildcat basketball, took his pen and paper and then exiled the young man to the KFC Yum! Center.

    The groom is currently employed as a forklift operator at CC Tool.
    The wedding is scheduled for Sept. 10, 2011, at 4 p.m. at Eagle Lake Reception Hall. All friends and family are invited.

    The bride is a 2004 graduate of Anderson County High School, and is currently pursuing a degree in neurology.
    The groom is a 1994 graduate of Mercer County High School and is currently employed at Hitachi Automotive.
    The wedding is scheduled for Sept. 10, 2011, at 4 p.m. at Mary Francis Steele’s residence in Harrodsburg.

    Keith and Desiree Bowman of Nicholasville announce the engagement of their daughter Courtney Elizabeth Bowman of Nicholasville to Brandon Lee Akins of Lawrenceburg, son of Barry and Lynn Akins of Lawrenceburg.
    The bride is a 2009 Jessamine County High School graduate and works admittance at St. Joseph’s Hospital.
    The groom is a 2005 Anderson County High School graduate and problem solver at Amazon.
    The wedding will take place Sept. 10, 2011, at 2 p.m. at Sand Spring Baptist Church in Lawrenceburg. All family and friends are invited.
