  • Tuesday basketball games canceled

    Tuesday's Anderson County basketball games have been canceled, according to school athletic director Rick Sallee. No make-up dates for these games or other games called off due to inclement weather have been announced.

    The Anderson girls were to have played at Shelby County while the boys' team was scheduled to host North Oldham.

    Updates will be posted as they become available.

    Anderson vs. Mercer boys' game called off

    The Anderson County boys' basketball game at Mercer County, set for Saturday night has been canceled, according to athletic director Rick Sallee. No make-up date has been set for that game either.

  • Woodford Theatre to host auditions for future Huck Finn production

    The Woodford Theatre recently announced it would be hosting auditions for its upcoming production “Big River: The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn.” Production dates have been set for April 25-27, May 2-4 and May 9-11.
    Auditions are scheduled to be held Saturday, Jan. 18 from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. and Sunday, Jan. 19 from noon to 3 p.m.
    Callbacks are scheduled for Monday, Jan. 20 from 7-9 p.m. Other dates and times will be by appointment.
    Auditions will be held at the Woodford Theatre, 275 Beasley Drive in Versailles.

  • Turner student wins essay contest

    Emily Franck, a student at Robert B. Turner Elementary, recently won an AARP essay contest, according to a news release.
    Emily’s essay was about her grandmother Bell Bryant, Turner Principal Wayne Reese wrote in an email.
    The essay contest is sponsored by the AARP and is open to all fifth grade students who want to write about their grandparent and how important they are in their lives, Reese wrote.

    Anderson Community Education will offer the following classes starting in January. Register now by stopping by 219 East Woodford St. in Lawrenceburg, by calling Jacque Zeller at 839-3754 or emailing jacque.zeller@anderson.kyschools.us.
    Adult education instruction was scheduled to begin Jan. 6 for the new GED test issued January 2014 from Kentucky Adult Education. If you need instruction for a GED diploma or college preparation, please call 839-3754 or come by the center to enroll.

    Compassionate Friends announce upcoming meetings
    The Compassionate Friends will host meetings for bereavement parents who have lost children of any age.
    Meetings are held on the first Thursday from 6:30-8:30 p.m. and the third Monday from 6:30-8:30 p.m. at the hospice building, 643 Teton Trail in Frankfort.

  • Engagement: Hutchens-Burkett

    April and Justin Edwards of Lawrenceburg and Boyd Hutchens, Jr. of Sandy Hook announce the engagement of their daughter, Kendra Nichole Hutchens to Christopher Darrin Burkett, Jr., son of Wendy and Christopher Burkett of Lawrenceburg.
    Wedding date will be announced at a later date.

  • Birth: Spaulding

    Matthew and Megan Spaulding of Lawrenceburg announce the birth of their daughter Mattie Irene Spaulding, born Sept. 9, 2013 at 3:33 p.m. at Central Baptist Hospital.
    Mattie weighed 8.8 ounces and was 21 1/2 inches long.
    Big brother Malachi, 3, welcomed Mattie home.
    Maternal grandparents are Bill and Marna Bollinger of Lawrenceburg. Maternal great-grandparents are Roy and Mildred Hicks.
    Paternal grandparents are Mitch and Kathy Spaulding of Stanford. Paternal great-grandparent is Dora Spaulding.
