    Compassionate Friends announce upcoming meetings
    The Compassionate Friends will host meetings for bereavement parents who have lost children of any age.
    Meetings are held on the first Thursday from 6:30-8:30 p.m. and the third Monday from 6:30-8:30 p.m. at the hospice building, 643 Teton Trail in Frankfort.

    50 YEARS AGO
     June 20, 1963
    The five-digit zip code number assigned to Lawrenceburg by the Post Office Department was 40342, said Postmaster W.S.T. Johnson.
    The zip code, the Post Office’s revolutionary new system of mail dispatch and delivery, went into effect July 1.
    Other zip codes and postmasters in Anderson County were: Alton Station, Mrs. Sue McGuffey, code 40301; Gee, Mrs. Mary Gillis, 40323; Sinai, Mrs. Ruth Hoskins, 40375.

  • Hundreds line up for annual rabies clinic

    For the past 30 years the Anderson County Humane Society has held its annual rabies vaccination clinic to give local residents a “cheap” and available opportunity to get a check up for their pets.
    Nearly 800 animals were signed in to be vaccinated Saturday, all of which where dogs and cats, according to Donna Callahan, director of the Anderson Humane Society.  

  • Up, up, and away!

    As part of its 4-H summer fun program, the Anderson County extension office held a rocketry adventures class last Friday for children 9 and older.
    Students were taught simple physics and aero science before putting their knowledge to work to create bottle rockets, which they launched later in the day.  
    Each student could individualize his or her own rocket once they were given simple materials that included duct tape, 2-liter bottles and sand to weigh the bottle down.

    Judge Donna Dutton heard the following cases during Anderson District Court proceedings on April 11, 2013.
    Tyler Absher, arraignment, two counts of second-degree assault – pleaded not guilty, preliminary hearing April 18.
    Donald B. Cox, hearing, first-degree disorderly conduct – fines and costs converted to four days to serve.

  • Friends of Library host moving sale

    Friends of Anderson Public Library will host a book sale on June 22 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Old Glensboro School, located on the Anderson County High School campus at the corner of 127 Bypass and US 62.
    The organization is moving to a different location soon and wants to make the move lighter, according to the Friends of the Library press release.
    The sale will include a variety of fiction, classics, westerns, science-fiction, biographies, self-help and motivational, war and history, decorating and cookbooks.

  • Library offers July programs

    The Anderson County Library will offer the following free classes in July.
    All classes are subject to cancellation, and class space is limited to five students. Students will use the library’s laptops.
