  • District softball final postponed until Thursday

    Tuesday afternoon's rainstorm forced postponement of the 30th District Softball Tournament championship game. Anderson County will host Collins Thursday evening at 6 p.m.

  • Engagement: Trent-Clark

    Mrs. Joey Trent and Mr. Hiliary Trent announce the engagement of their daughter, Megan Trent, to Justin Clark, son of Jeff and Sheila Clark of Paris.
    The bride is a graduate of the University of Kentucky. The groom is a graduate of Western Kentucky University.
    The wedding is set for June 7, 2013, at Buffalo Trace Distillery. Formal invitations have been sent.
     

  • Birth: McElroy

    Shannon K. and Denise S. McElroy of Frankfort announce the birth of their son, George Edward (Jed) McElroy, born April 26, 2013, at Frankfort Regional Medical Center.
    He weighed 8 pounds, 15.7 ounces, and was 21 inches long.
    Big sisters Annie, 3, and Emery, 2, welcomed George home.
    Maternal grandparents are George and Julie Sipple of Frankfort. Maternal great-grandparents are Leona Barnes, William Bingham, the late Earl Doty and Sue Sipple.

  • Birth: Cooper

    Josh and Nicole Cooper of Mount Washington announce the birth of their son, Bennett Austin Cooper, born April 10, 2013, at Baptist Hospital East.
    He weighed 6 pounds and was 17 1/2 inches long.
    Big brother Hudson, 2, welcomed Bennett home.
    Maternal grandparents are Perry and Teresa White of Mackville. Maternal great-grandparent is Dorothy Carey.
    Paternal grandparents are Larry and Shirley Cooper of Lawrenceburg. Paternal great-grandparents are Don and Kathleen Cooper.

  • Annual ceremony honors fallen Lawrenceburg troopers

    Kentucky State Troopers, particularly those who die in the line of duty, are never forgotten.
    Two Lawrenceburg troopers were honored last Wednesday in an annual ceremony that included several of their family members, along with representatives from the state police, sheriff’s office and city police.
    Troopers Harold J. Toll and Bobby McCoun were honored in separate ceremonies that included prayers, scripture and song in two local cemeteries.

    Compassionate Friends announce upcoming meetings
    The Compassionate Friends will host meetings for bereavement parents who have lost children of any age.
    Meetings are held on the first Thursday from 6:30-8:30 p.m. and the third Monday from 6:30-8:30 p.m. at the hospice building, 643 Teton Trail in Frankfort.

  • Free GED test to be offered at Learning Center

    The GED test will be offered for free in Kentucky starting May 15 through July 31, according to a press release.
    Starting Jan. 1, 2014, the cost of the GED test is expected to double from $60 to $120, according to Adult Education and Literacy Director Jerry Shaw. Anyone who has started the GED process needs to finish by Dec. 31, 2013, or students will lose all their previous test scores.
    The new computer-based test, set to be instituted in January 2014, will include higher degrees of math and more short essays, according to Shaw.

    Student named to National Society of Collegiate Scholars
    Braden Peyton of Lawrenceburg has accepted a membership in The National Society of Collegiate Scholars (NSCS), according to a news release.
    The National Society of Collegiate Scholars is an honors organization that recognizes and elevates high achievers.
    NSCS provides career and graduate school connections, leadership and service experiences, access to discounts and savings as well as nearly half a million dollars in scholarship annually, according to a press release from NSCS.
