  • No cause yet on Hilltop blaze

    The cause of a fire that destroyed a Hilltop Plaza business last month has yet to be determined.
    Lawrenceburg Fire Chief Robert Hume said Monday that a state arson investigator, a state fire marshal and the building owner’s insurance company all investigated the fire last week, and no official determination has been made.
    “They did take a kerosene heater out of that that was being used to warm part of the building, but they never gave me a definite answer as to what started the fire,” Hume said.

  • ‘Salon for Santa’ creates merry Christmas for local children

    The American Legion Auxiliary, Custom Cuts Hair Salon, New Creations Hair Design, local churches and many giving community members helped make this Christmas a special one for 87 children, according to a news release from the auxiliary.

    Judge Donna Dutton heard the following cases during District Court proceedings Dec. 9.
    Leticia Goodlett, arraignment, six counts of theft by deception (less than $500) – pleaded not guilty, disposition Jan. 6.
    Timothy J. Griffieth, arraignment, failure of non-owner operator to maintain required insurance – remanded.
    Jessica M. Hawkins, disposition hearing, operating motor vehicle under the influence – continued Jan. 6.
    Tina E. Hawkins, sentencing, theft by deception (less than $500) – deferral successful, paid.

  • ACE offers ‘boot camp fitness’ class

    A class called “Boot Camp Fitness” will be offered each Saturday from Jan. 8-29 from 9 to 10:30 a.m. in the gymnasium at Emma B. Ward Elementary School.
    The class is sponsored by Anderson Community Education, and will be taught by certified instructor Todd Barrick.
    Cost is $25.
    The four-week class will include five fitness interval sessions. Workouts will include circuit training, heart rate intervals along with strength, core and polymeric training, according to a news release.
    The class is structured to fit all levels of fitness.
