  • ONLINE EXTRA: No blurry lines in regional playoff picture

The Class 5A, Region 3 playoff picture started coming into focus last weekend and will be sharpened with the games of this week.

Anderson County has clinched first place in District 6, while an early season Bearcat foe, South Oldham, has taken the school's first outright district crown in District 5.

  • COLUMN:Tide had turned before fake punt gone awry

The call was a curious one, no question.

It might have not been completely unexpected, but was still one that Franklin County caoch Chris Tracy had to know would open himself up to second-guessing, at best, or criticism if it did not work.

The call was a fake punt with Franklin facing a fourth-and-5 situation on its own 14 yard line. Only 77 seconds were left in the first half in Friday's showdown for the Class 5A, District 6 championship against Anderson County.

  • VOLLEYBALL: Shelby ousts Lady Bearcats

SHELBYVILLE – Few expected it to end this way.

Especially after Anderson County had beaten Shelby County twice during the 2013 volleyball season, few thought the Lady Bearcats would go down in three sets to that same Shelby team in the 30th District Tournament semifinals, held Monday night at Collins High School.

  • DISTRICT CHAMPS! Bearcats dominate second half, defeat Franklin

Anderson County rallied from an early 14-0 deficit, then controlled the second half to defeat Franklin County, 35-21, for the Class 5A, District 6 championship Friday night at Hollie Warford Stadium.

The Bearcats captured their third district title in seven years while improving to 7-1 on the year. Franklin, which had won the last two district crowns, fell to 8-1 and suffered its first regular-season loss since 2010.

  • SOCCER: Spencer slips past Lady Bearcats in district final shootout

Jason Earnest has been known to shed tears after a post-season loss, but the Anderson County girls' soccer coach could only muster a faint smile last Wednesday night.

The Lady Bearcats had just taken visiting Spencer County through two overtimes before falling in a penalty-kick shootout in the 30th District girls' soccer tournament championship game.

  • SOCCER: Shelby ends Bearcat season

There would be no offensive explosion this time around.

And this time, an elimination game in the first round of the 30th District soccer tournament, was the one that is remembered.

Visiting Shelby County made Anderson County's season end on a sour note with a dominating performance and a 3-0 win to move on to play Collins for the district title Thursday night.

The Rockets got goals from Cole Meredith and Julio Morales in the first half, then put things away midway through the second half when Meredith found the net again.
