  • Ninevah Christian Church worship center on track to open in April

    Ninevah Christian Church, located at 1195 Ninevah Road, recently completed the outside construction phase of its new 740-seat worship center.

  • Westside Community announces January events

    Westside Community Church recently announced its events and services for the month of January.
    On Saturday, Jan. 8, the youth will take a trip to the Georgetown Pavilion. The group will leave the church at noon.
    During the 11 a.m. worship service on Sunday, Jan. 16, Glenis Sanders will be singing.
    On Tuesday, Jan. 18, the church will visit Heritage Hall for music and fellowship.
    Regular service times are Sunday at 10 a.m. for Sunday school, 11 for the morning worship service and 6 for the evening worship service.

  • Middle school principal suspended

    Students returned to Anderson County Middle School on Tuesday, but their principal wasn’t there to greet them.

  • No surprise at Bearcats' start

    This time, the answer seemed to surprise the questioner.

    As we concluded an interview in the locker room at Lexington’s Sayre High School, Glen Drury turned the tables on the only local media member around.

    “Does it surprise you that we are .500 right now?” Drury asked.
    “Nope,” I replied. “Not at all.”

    Drury has won over 400 games and has seen a ton of the unexpected on the basketball court, but he seemed genuinely surprised that one who has seen probably more games he has coached, outside of his family and trusted friends Jimmy Young and Wayne Wilder, would make that statement.

    The Fairgrounds Drive-In built a reputation around having what many considered the best hamburgers and coneys in Lawrenceburg.

  • Local athlete to play in national all-star game

    Jarrod Cubert, an eighth-grader at Anderson County Middle School, has been selected to play in the 2011 Eastbay Youth All-American Bowl on Sunday, Jan. 9. The game will be played at The Alamodome in San Antonio, Tex.

    The contest can be seen via webcasts at www.allamericangames.tv.

    A 6-foot-1, 255-pound lineman, Cubert was selected from among thousands of nominations for the honor of playing in the game, which is patterned after the U.S. Army All-American Bowl, which will be played on Saturday. The younger participants will have VIP access to that game and will be honored at halftime.

  • No ruling in porn, sex device lawsuit

    The Anderson County Fiscal Court will have to wait to see if a judge will grant its motion to have a woman’s sexual harassment lawsuit against it tossed out.
    Tuesday in Anderson Circuit Court, Judge Charles Hickman did not issue a ruling on the motion, saying instead that he will consider arguments filed by attorneys for the fiscal court and fired county employee Lea Beasmore.
    The hearing lasted only a couple of minutes, and Beasmore was not in the courtroom at the time.

  • Couple helps honor niece at Rose Bowl

    Two Lawrenceburg residents played a role in Saturday’s Rose Bowl Parade in Pasadena, Calif., but not nearly as large a role as that played by their late niece.
