  • Bearcats repeat as district champs

    SHELBYVILLE – The decision to give Jacob Brown the task of shutting down Shelby County in the 30th District championship game was really not difficult, according to Anderson County baseball coach L.W. Barnes.

    “When he's on, he has the nastiest stuff on our staff,” Barnes said.

    Suffice it to say that the senior left-hander was on Wednesday night. Brown scattered five hits and struck out a career-high 14 in 6.2 innings as Anderson won its second consecutive 30th District title, 13-4, at the Shelby County Athletic Complex.

  • Rivals and fans

    The debate on who is the better diamond performer, Jeremy Turpin or his younger sister, Courtney, might never be resolved to everyone’s satisfaction, but there is little doubt about the president of Jeremy’s fan club.

    “He’s going to get a base hit,” Courtney says as she conducts an interview during the Anderson County-Danville baseball game on May 7.

    At the time, the Bearcats were clinging to a 2-1 lead in the bottom of the sixth. Danville pitcher Duran Elmore had been giving the Bearcats fits, but Jeremy strode to the plate.

  • Bearcats open regional play against North Oldham

    Anderson County got the toughest possible first round opponent when the Bearcats drew North Oldham in the first round of the Eighth Region tournament, which will begin Memorial Day at the Shelby County Athletic Complex in Shelbyville.

    The Bearcats and Mustangs will play the first game of the lower bracket and the winner of that game will play the winner of Gallatin County and Walton-Verona in the semifinals. Anderson defeated North Oldham 9-2 on May 9 in the Woodford County Yellow Jacket Classic. Anderson also defeated North in the regional semi-finals last year.

  • Regional baseball, softball fields set; Baseball draw Friday

    The Eighth Region baseball and softball tournaments are set to begin Monday, May 25. Both will be held at the Shelby County Athletic Complex in Shelbyville. The baseball draw is set for Friday afternoon, softball will draw on Sunday, according to the Anderson coaches.

  • Bearcats back in state rankings

    The final Kentucky High School Baseball coaches' poll is out. Anderson County moves back into the rankings at No. 19, the highest ranking ever for the Bearcat program. Anderson had fallen out of the poll last week. The Bearcats will open defense of their Eighth Region crown on Memorial Day.

    Keeping up with technology is growing more and more important by the day. Unfortunately, I’ve never been the best at staying on the cutting edge. Fortunately, my husband is.

    One of the things he has introduced me to in the past couple months is Google Reader. Basically it’s a centralized place I can go to read news that I pick out by subscribing to RSS feeds. I don’t understand it all or how it works really, but I do enjoy getting news tailored to my interests.
