C.J. Penny knows what his team will be up against Saturday and Sunday evenings.

Nearly two months ago, Penny was selected to be a part of the Kentucky All-Star team that is set to play Indiana in the summer basketball series. The Hoosiers boast one of their strongest team’s ever, led by the state’s Mr. Basketball and Indiana signee Jordan Hulls of Bloomington South and Lawrence North’s 6-foot-9 Stephen Van Treese, who is headed to Louisville.

Keeping a positive attitude in our current day and age is a priority for me. I try to be a positive person and surround myself with things that make me happy. Still, there are things that rub me the wrong way, and I’ve decided to address a couple of those this week. We’ll call them “Things I don’t understand.”

We warned a couple of weeks ago about the danger of allowing non-elected people to draft legislation.

When it met Thursday afternoon, the committee appointed to craft a dog ordinance did what we expected: it dropped any reference of pit bulls from the ordinance and stripped it of any chance it had of making a real change.

What is left is something that will likely mirror the city of Lawrenceburg’s ordinance and give pit bulls the ability to strike first before anything is done to contain them.

Edwinna Baker became the city’s first female mayor two years ago, and now a woman is gunning to become the county’s first female judge-executive.

Donna Drury confirmed Monday afternoon that she is running as a non-registered independent for judge-executive when the election is held next November.

“Yes, I am,” she said. “I sent out letters to my friends and family telling them that I’m running, and joked that Anderson County might not be ready for a woman to be judge, but maybe it’s time.”
