  • BASEBALL: Mudcats roll in return to diamond

    The Cincinnati area is baseball country, but they don't play a bad brand of the game 100 miles south either.

    The Central Kentucky Mudcats showed that Saturday when they swept a double-header at Boone County High School, located in the Cincinnati suburbs.

    The Mudcats, a local 16-and-under team, defeated the Bluegrass Lions, 8-3, in the opener, then came back to beat the Bluegrass Buzz, 8-5, in the nightcap. Both opponents were teams made up of players from Cincinnati and northern Kentucky high schools.

  • TRACK AND FIELD: On the fast track to success

    A pair of Anderson County High School students hope the fast track they are on leads to bigger things at the AAU National meet.

    Connor Duncan, a sophomore, and Alorra Sims, a freshman, are slated to compete at the organization's biggest meet, to be held July 28-Aug. 3 at Eastern Michigan University in Ypsilanti.

    Another Anderson County runner, eighth-grader Elle Buser, also qualified for the event but has elected not to attend, according to former Anderson coach Robert Meacham.

  • Sports briefs for July 17, 2013

    Sponsorships being accepted for Carnahan Bowl

    The second annual Seth Carnahan Memorial Bowl football game will be played on Saturday, August 10 at Warford Stadium on the campus of Anderson County High School.

    Anderson County Middle School will host the game, playing Union Middle School of Boone County.

    Proceeds from the game will go toward improvements in the middle school football facility, which is currently only a field located behind the school.

  • Two teens airlifted after car crash on Rice Road

    Four teenagers were seriously injured  in a car accident Tuesday afternoon after allegedly crashing into a tree on Rice Road, located just off US 62.

    Emergency management personnel and firefighters responded at about 4:30 p.m. and worked quickly to extract a young man and a young woman from a gray Nissan Altima, which had flipped over onto its hood and appeared to have landed the middle of Rice Road. Two other young women were being treated by EMS off to the side, away from the vehicle.

  • Summer reading fun at Anderson Public Library

    Preschoolers where treated to a performance by Imagination Inc. on July 8 as part of the Anderson Public Library’s summer reading program. Imagination Inc. is a theater troupe from Edmonton and travels throughout the state to libraries for the summer reading program.
    The troupe is a part of the Barn Lot Theatre, based out of Bowling Green, a program a volunteer-based, non-profit organization that provides affordable theatrical performances by local actors.
    Barn Lot Theater tries to provide appreciation of theater and creative expression.

  • Church Briefs: 7-10-13

    Church to celebrate centennial
    Kirkwood Baptist Church will celebrate its 100th anniversary with a centennial event scheduled for Sunday, July 14.
    “One hundred years is a big achievement and we are quite proud that  
    the Lord has blessed us with such longevity,” church officials said in a news release.
    A special worship is planned for 11 a.m. centering on the church’s 100th anniversary, “thanking God for allowing us to serve him and becoming excited for what he will do for us in the future,” organizers said.

    I often say that it is rare today to find a purely original thought. It was 18th century philosopher Immanuel Kant who influenced Georg Wilhelm Friedrich Hegel who influenced Karl Marx who influenced communist leaders Vladimir Lenin and Joseph Stalin, whose influences still affect our world today.

  • Curry-Smith Engagement

    Mr. and Mrs. Brad Smith of Lawrenceburg announce the engagement of their daughter Hannah Paige Smith to Dylan Curry, son of Mr. and Mrs. Paul Curry of Frankfort.
    The couple will be married at First Christian Church in Lawrenceburg on Saturday, July 20 at 6:30 p.m., with a reception to follow at Eagle Lake Convention and Expo Center.
    Hannah is a junior at Ball State University in Muncie, Ind. Her major is criminal justice with her focus being on juveniles.
    Dylan’s major is also criminal justice at Ball State University, with a minor in aquatics.
