    Compassionate Friends announce upcoming meetings
    The Compassionate Friends will host meetings for bereavement parents who have lost children of any age.
    Meetings are held on the first Thursday from 6:30-8:30 p.m. and the third Monday from 6:30-8:30 p.m. at the hospice building, 643 Teton Trail in Frankfort.

    Donna Jean Cook, 2 1/2 year old daughter of Mr. and Mrs. William Cook, broke her left leg in a fall down some stairs at her home. She was treated at a Frankfort hospital.

    Lucille Duncan was sworn into office by Judge Coleman Wright and was given the oath of office to fill the unexpired term of Mrs. Lizzie Witherspoon, who resigned as Anderson County Circuit Court Clerk.
    Agnes Kays, who had been serving as Mrs. Witherspoon’s deputy, was sworn in to be Duncan’s deputy as well.

  • School district recognizes perfect attendance achievements

    The following Anderson County students received perfect attendance, zero tardies and zero absences, for the 2012-2013 school year.
    This list does not include those students who were present everyday, but may have signed in or out for an appointment, according to Director of Student Services Derek Shouse.

    Four Anderson County High School juniors — Hunter Campbell, Hannah Merideth, Mary Lee and Jacob Brumley —were chosen to attend the 2013 Governor’s Scholars program.

  • Ward crowns students ‘kings’ and ‘queens’ of reading

    Emma B. Ward students were recognized and rewarded for their Accelerated Reading accomplishments May 21, according to a news release.
    “The school wide reading program encourages students to read books and take quizzes on those books in order to meet point goals set by their teachers,” Ward accelerated reading organizers said in the release.
    Ward students earned a total of 20,950 points for the year. The boy and girl from each grade who earned the most points were crowned AR King and Queen.

  • Ward student named district winner for essay

    Emma B. Ward Elementary fifth grade student Emily Slone was recently named the Central Kentucky West district winner in the “AARP Kentucky Grandparent of the Year” essay contest.
    She is among thousands of Kentucky fifth graders participating in the annual essay competition, sponsored by AARP Kentucky and the Kentucky Retired Teachers Association, according to a press release.
    The local contest was coordinated and promoted by the Anderson County Retired Teacher Association.
