  • BOYS BASKETBALL: Bearcats explode in second half, rout Western Hills

     

    Anderson County exploded over the final 12 minutes to destroy visiting Western Hills, 94-59, Friday night.

    Leading 52-43 midway through the third quarter, the Bearcats went on an 11-2 scoring run that turned a competitive game into an unexpected rout.

    The Bearcats did as they pleased down the stretch to post their 13th win in 15 games.

  • Law shows the need for salvation, paradox of Christian faith

    When my youngest daughter first moved away from home and I realized I could not control her every action (not that I ever could, but I deluded myself into thinking I could when she lived with me), I had a brilliant idea.
    She was home for a visit and when I brought her to the airport I said, “Let me give you a list of everything I think you should and shouldn’t do and then you can just do everything on the list and we’ll both live happily ever after, especially me.”

    Isn’t to be a Christian the act of emulating Jesus’s commands?  
    Our society applauds wealth and success as what’s important. Even the apostles argued over strength and who was best and who might sit beside Christ in his kingdom. This is fundamentally human nature.
    But what is so fascinating to me is how Jesus, sheer God in human form, looked at what is important and tells us to be servants.

  • Free health seminar to be held Jan. 17

    A free video health seminar titled “God’s Way to Ultimate Health” will be held Jan. 17 at 6:30 p.m. at Ninevah Christian Church.
    “In this dynamic seminar, the Rev. George Malkmus tells how he overcame colon cancer and other diseases more than 30 years ago by simple diet changes founded on principles found in the Bible,” according to a news release.
    Ninevah Christian Church is located at 1195 Ninevah Road in Lawrenceburg.

  • ACE offers crash course in pottery

    Adult Community Education is offering a pottery wheel crash course Thursday, Jan. 17 from 6-8 p.m. through Elements Clay Studio and Stuff and ceramics artist Susan Burge.
    “This is a great opportunity to use the potter’s wheel and gain a basic understanding of the beginner process of wheel-throwing clay,” according to a news release from ACE.  “This 2-hour session includes demonstration, hands-on wheel throwing and the pottery hand-building experience.”  

  • Class of 1953 makes plans for high school reunion

    Event organizers of the 60th reunion for the Anderson County High School Class of 1953 are seeking information about former classmates as they plan for the reunion to be held June 14-15, 2013.
     “In an effort to make sure we include everyone, please let us hear from you,” reunion organizers said in a news release. “If you started with us as a freshman, and for any reason didn’t finish (school) with us, you are invited.”
    Widowers and widows of classmates are also invited. All events for the reunion will take place in Lawrenceburg.
