  • The place to ‘bee’

    Bluegrass Beekeeping School is scheduled for March 12 at Kentucky State University in Frankfort, organizers announced.
    The program offers two tracks. There will be a basic introductory course for new beekeepers and those interested in beekeeping as a hobby.
    There will also be a large number of sessions for experienced beekeepers to deepen their knowledge of bees, their behaviors and their management.
    The featured guest speaker will be Diana Sammataro, a honey bee researcher from the US Department of Agriculture Honey Bee Research Lab in Tucson, Ariz.

  • Anderson Community Education offers classes

    Anderson Community Education will offer the following computer classes over the next several weeks.

    Basic Microsoft Word
    When: Tuesday, March 8 and Thursday, March 10 from 6-8 p.m.
    Where: Adult Learning Center, 219 E. Woodford St. with instructor Beth Feddersen
    Cost: $30
    Description: Learn basic computer skills. You will be introduced to Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Access, but a main focus will be on Word. You will learn the toolbars within the program and how to save and cut and paste documents.

  • Relay For Life Calendar 3/2

    Friday, March 18
    Liberty Tax Service will offer free tax preparation for a donation to Anderson County Relay for Life. The business will offer a free tax prep fee (value up to $250) to everyone who files their taxes with them that day. They are asking for a minimum $50 donation to Relay for Life at that time, to be designated to the Relay team of your choice. The event will include free food, fun and informational speakers from the American Cancer Society and Anderson County Health Department. For more information, call 502-839-0303.

  • Church briefs — March 2-8

    Church of Christ hosts clothing giveaway
    Lawrenceburg Church of Christ will host a clothing giveaway Saturday, March 5 and Saturday, March 12 from 9 a.m. to noon.
    The clothes are free for those in need.
    The church has a clothing closet where members bring clothes that no longer fit, but are in good condition, according to a news release. Throughout the year, these clothes are used to help families after a fire or during financial difficulties.

  • Graefenburg UMC welcomes new pastor

    Graefenburg United Methodist Church, located on U.S. 60 at Crab Orchard Road, one mile west of Hwy. 151, recently announced its new pastor is Matthew Kimmons.
    “His passion for discipleship and developing leaders within the church is very evident in Pastor Matthew’s sermons and his daily communication with his congregation,” a news release from the church said.
