  • Soccer and volleyball regional pairings announced

    The Eighth Region soccer and volleyball tournament pairings were announced Saturday. All of the tournaments will open Monday, October 15 at various sites.

    On paper, it appears the Anderson volleyball and girls' soccer teams got a favorable first round pairing.

  • Franklin's Timmons snatches victory from Bearcats

    Fourteen seconds.

    Fourteen measly seconds were all that stood between Anderson County and the Class 5A, District 6 football championship Friday night.

    But when Ryan Timmons is on the other team, those 14 seconds could seem like 14 years.

    Timmons took a kickoff 80 yards on the final play of the game to lift Franklin County to a 56-52 win over Anderson County at Benny Watkins Field at Franklin County High School Friday night.

  • GIRLS' SOCCER: Lady Bearcats win district crown

    SHELBYVILLE -- Anderson County got goals from Madeline Wilson and Autumn Miller in the first half then made them stand up to defeat Spencer County, 2-0, in the 30th District Tournament championship game, held at Collins High School.

    The Lady Bearcats got on the board in the 20th minute when Madeline Wilson scored on a free kick from only about five yards out. Spencer had been called for a hand ball when the goalie picked up the ball after receiving a pass from a teammate.

  • Veteran designation driver’s licenses available

    Kentucky veterans are able to obtain driver’s licenses imprinted with the newly authorized “veteran” designation, which became available Sept. 24, according to a news release from the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet.
    Veterans must present a Department of Defense form 214 to verify service when they visit Circuit Court clerk’s office. There is also a $20 renewal fee.

    Karla Elaine Phillips of Lexington and Bradley Scott Williams of Lexington were married June 2, 2012, at Chrisman Mill Vineyards.
    Pastor Joshua Cummins officiated the wedding.
    The bride is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. William Woodrow Phillips II of Lawrenceburg. The bride’s grandparents are the late Mr. and Mrs. C.C. Cook, Jr., and the late Mr. and Mrs. Woodrow Phillips.
    The groom is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Steve Williams of Versailles. The groom’s grandparents are Mr. and Mrs. Marshall Reynolds and  Mr. and Mrs. Thomas Williams.

    How many times do we deny Christ in the way we live our lives? It’s really scary to me how often I fail to acknowledge and live a life centered upon Christ.
    What does the Bible tell us about those that deny Christ, and then repent? An important example is Simon Peter.
    We all remember how Peter denied Jesus publicly three times on the eve of Jesus’ crucifixion.
    However, after Peter denied Jesus he wept bitterly, sorrowfully repenting.

  • Prayer walk to be held at high school

    Event organizers invite the community to join them in a prayer walk through Anderson County High School on Oct. 14 at 2 p.m. at the main entrance of the school building.
    Prayer walks through Anderson County High School are held the second Sunday of every month at 2 p.m. at the front doors.
    “Let’s lift up the students and faculty in prayer and ask God to open doors for them,” event organizers said.
