    Westside news and notes
    On July 1 Pastor F.D. Robinson baptized Glenn Dunn, Samuel Green, JoAnn Rucker, Brandon Jones and Ladonna Bell.
    On July 20 Westside had a Family Fun Night in which the church family went to the movies.
    On July 22 Westside held its last Sunday Service at 700 West Broadway.
    On July 28 Westside had a Family Fun Night in which the church family went bowling.

  • Rest assured, even atheists will meet God

    I am often confused by the concept of atheism and ponder that there are those who actually reject the existence of God.
    How can someone step back and look at the vastness of our world, the beauty and intricacies of nature, to see your own eyes in your child’s eyes and believe this is all an accident?
    To me it borders on actual hatred for God as opposed to love of him. I believe even the unreached villager in Papua New Guinea acknowledges God.

  • ACE offers enrollment for upcoming school year

    The Anderson County Adult Learning Center, located at 219 E. Woodford St., is now enrolling adult education students for the new school year, the organization announced.
    Orientation for new students began July 19. Students will now be enrolled into managed classrooms and placed in classrooms based on their skill levels.
    One-on-one tutoring will be available to students during scheduled lab times. Students will have access to an online study program. Returning students will be placed according to their current levels in math and language.

  • Public library introduces August computer classes

    The Anderson Public Library will offer the following computer classes for the month of August. Class space is limited to five students each, and all classes are free. Students will use the library’s laptop computers. For more information or to sign up, contact the library or Athena Gentry at 839-6420. All classes are subject to cancellation.

    Judge Donna Dutton heard the following cases during Anderson District Court proceedings on June 21, 2012.
    Deanna P. Waldridge, hearing, failure to notify department of transportation of address change – pleaded guilty, $20; failure of non-owner operator to maintain required insurance – pleaded guilty, $500; operating a motor vehicle under the influence – pleaded guilty, sentenced to 15 days (conditionally discharged one year), 30 day operator license suspension, $728, installment/deferred payment Dec. 20, review July 5.

  • District lays out times, rules for opening of schools

    Anderson County school are scheduled to open for the 2012-13 school year Aug. 15.
    Following are hours of operation and general guidelines provided by the school district.

    Hours of operation for each school
    8:05-2:40—Instructional Day for Kindergarten
    Doors open for car riders—7:30 a.m.
    AM Pre-school dismisses at 11:05 a.m.
    PM Pre-school begins at 11:35 a.m.
    Buses begin dismissing at 2:40 p.m.
    Kindergarten car riders dismiss at 2:50 p.m.
    Pre-school car riders dismiss at 3 p.m.
