  • Girls' Sweet 16 tickets on sale Friday at high school

    Anderson County High School will be selling pep section tickets to the Houchens Industries Girls' Sweet 16 on Friday, March 8 from 4-6 p.m. at the concession stand in the school lobby. The school will also offer tickets on Monday, March 11 from 1-4 p.m. and 4-6 p.m. Anderson County athletic director Rick Sallee says the school will be selling tickets in the student pep section and the cost is $9 per ticket and are for the night session on Wednesday, March 13, only.

  • Eighth Region Champs! Lady Bearcats to return to Diddle!

    GOSHEN – With only 90 seconds left in the journey, it looked like Anderson County was still 10 miles from Diddle.

    “Things weren't looking good,” Lady Bearcat coach Tony Kays smiled.

    But somehow, the Lady Bearcats found a way to get to Bowling Green. Let's just hope their trip down the Blue Grass Parkway and I-65 is not as eventful this week.

    Anderson rallied from a 61-51 deficit to force overtime. The Lady Bearcats scored 10 points in 40 seconds.

    Read that again: Ten points. Forty seconds.

    to host gospel meeting
    Lawrenceburg Church of Christ, located at 558 South Main St., will host a “Christianity confronts culture” gospel meeting March 7-10.
    The event features guest speaker Jody Apple from Knoxville, Tenn., an instructor at the Southeast Institute of Biblical Studies and a speaker for the radio program “The International Gospel Hour.

    You have probably heard (or said yourself) “I don’t need the church to worship; I can worship God here at home (or on the golf course, fishing lake, etc.).”

  • Friends of the library to meet

    Friends of the Anderson Public Library is scheduled to meet March 13 at 5:30 p.m. at the library, the organization announced.
    New members are welcome.
    The group meets the second Wednesday of the month at the library at 5:30 p.m.
    If there is no school, there will be no meeting.

    Compassionate Friends announce upcoming meetings
    The Compassionate Friends will host meetings for bereavement parents who have lost children of any age.
    Meetings are held on the first Thursday from 6:30-8:30 p.m. and the third Monday from 6:30-8:30 p.m. at the hospice building, 643 Teton Trail in Frankfort.

  • ‘Beauty and the Beast’ to host community day

    Children can meet the characters from the Anderson County High School’s upcoming production of “Beauty and the Beast” during a “Community Day” event on March 9 from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. in the Anderson County High School lobby.
    Children ages 2-10 are invited to play games, meet the characters and win prizes, according to the drama department’s press release.
    The Anderson County High School drama department’s production of “Beauty and the Beast” will be performed March 15-16 at 7 p.m., and March 17 at 2:30 p.m.

    The 70-acre farm of Harry and Fyrne Barnes, located about one mile east of Lawrenceburg on the Versailles Road, sold at auction to Charles L. Scott for $33,500.

    The thermometer at Lock No. 5 registered zero or below 14 times from Jan. 1 to March 1 and, during this same period, it was only above freezing three times during the early morning hours.
