  • Working hard to help disabled voters

    To the editor:
    People with disabilities have the right, like other registered voters, to cast their ballots at polling places that are accessible to them.
    This includes, but is not limited to, people physically accessing their polling places in order to vote independently and privately.

  • Better traffic control needed on Halloween

    To the editor:
    I live in Thoroughbred Estates and this year on Halloween cars were parked on both sides near the entrance.
    It was very hard to see around the cars and was hard to get by other cars coming the opposite way. I know Halloween is a fun time, but this is extremely dangerous. It puts kids in danger, too.

  • Getting rid of health director is the answer

    To the editor:
    As everyone now knows there are not enough funds to pay for the new health department building without raising taxes, which is unacceptable at this time and in the future.
    When the building went out for bids, it was not stipulated that the subcontracting be done locally. This should have been considered by health director Brandon Hurley, but he consulted with no one over the possibility of using local businesses.

  • Burgoo cook-off great for Shop With a Cop

    To the editor:
    The recent Burgoo Festival featured the first ever Burgoo Cook-off, with all proceeds going to the Anderson County Shop With a Cop Program.
    When it was over, $460 had been raised for this amazing program.
    I feel some thanks are very much in order.
    First and foremost I’d like to thank Editor Ben Carlson, who came up with the idea and marched on with it in the face of numerous naysayers who proclaimed that it would not amount to anything.

  • Finally, a president who supports coal

    To the editor:
    The recent news that the Big Sandy Power Plant near Louisa will continue to operate as a coal-burning electrical generation plant should be a cause for celebration throughout its distribution area.
    I applaud Kentucky Power Company President Greg Pauley’s decision to keep it coal. It’s good to see a president that appreciates coal. From day one, President Obama has been against coal. He has allowed the EPA to promulgate its own rules that have sent miners home due to the stalling-out effect of their rules on the industry.

  • Spared rod to blame for Healing Field thefts

    To the editor:
    Regarding the article two weeks about about the theft of flags from the Healing Field, Auxiliary member Pam Rice said the thefts were “very disturbing.”
    Congressman Ben Chandler said he can’t understand why anyone would resort to stealing flags.
    Attorney Marie Hellard agreed, saying she also can’t understand the thefts.
    What concerns me more than the thefts is that you all don’t get it, and some of you are in positions of power.

  • Trick-or-treat hours should be set to later time

    To the editor:
    The celebration of Halloween climaxes with the trick-or-treaters going door to door throughout our neighborhoods.
    Typically, this is done at sundown as it used to be done in Lawrenceburg.
    For the past two years the time has been move to an earlier time in the evening.
    This has taken some of the fun and spookiness out of the experience for everyone.
    As very large supporters of Halloween, we decorate every year for this fun and spooky event.

  • Company cut trees despite being told not to

    To the editor:
    In September, a man representing Blue Grass Energy stopped at our home. He was checking with homeowners about trees directly under or surrounding power lines.
    My husband said he was asking for permission to cut down or trim these trees. He told the man he could trim but not cut the trees along our front driveway.
    Those trees, water maples, were planted or put out with the help of my dad, Floyd Stratton. He passed away in 2001, so these trees are or were of great value to me.

  • Culvert thief invited to attend church

    To the editor:
    This letter is to the man who stole the cast iron culvert from the driveway at 216 Horn Drive.
    I know who you are, so don’t think you got away without anyone knowing.
    I really don’t care about the culvert, and probably would have given it to you had you asked.
    I do, however, care about you.
    I forgive you for taking that which did not belong to you. I have been praying for you and invite you to the Sunday morning service at Lawrenceburg First Baptist Church to hear about God’s love for you.

  • Good job, Eddie Carey

    To the editor:
    I would like to thank the KTPA, Mr. Eddie Carey and all of his help who worked so hard last weekend to put on the truck pull.
    It was really a good show and some good, clean entertainment.
    I can only hope [he] can continue to have these truck pulls. Everybody enjoyed the show, and Eddie’s hard work.
    Hopefully, it will be bigger and better next year.
