To the editor:
I am a state employee. We have taken furloughs to help with the budget crisis and the recession.
I am just wondering why can’t our city officials do the same? I know this can’t be possible with law enforcement but why not with other non-emergency staff?
With no raises given, gas prices on the rise and cost of living increases, the residents of Lawrenceburg can’t afford any more tax increases.
We need to put this pressure on our city officials.

To the editor:
There is no doubt that accidents have been a common occurrence along the portion of US 62 between Hilltop Drive and the Kentucky River this year.
We’ve seen numerous accidents involving cars striking deer, cars striking debris falling off trucks and vehicles striking other vehicles.
It seems like the road has become significantly more dangerous lately. Unfortunately, some of the accidents along this stretch of road have been fatal this year.

This is in response to a portion of Ben Carlson’s column in last week’s paper, as well as a letter from Darren Hawkins.

To the editor:
I am writing out of concern for a growing problem in the eastern end of Anderson County.
Specifically, I am referring to the ever-growing amount of apparent careless driving that is occurring just east of city limits in the stretch Versailles Road that runs between the entrance of Hunter Ridge subdivision through the area near the Wild Turkey Distillery.
Not too many months ago two lives were lost in a tragic head-on collision near Lock Road. It’s hard to say how many lives were affected by the loss of these two lives.
