  • Support legalization of medical marijuana in Kentucky

    To the editor:

I’m writing today to ask the citizens of Kentucky to help change the laws regarding medical cannabis in our state. There needs to be common sense, compassionate reform of the law to help the truly disabled and sick people of Kentucky. We have a moral duty to stand up for the rights of our afflicted family and neighbors.

    By Joan Martin

If you were able to retire, but then decide to go back to work, what would you do?

Some older Americans are looking for work because they want more involvement with people and ideas. Others seek to increase their income because they don’t have enough money to do the things they want to do in retirement.

  • Spring fever: Time to plant cool-weather favorites

Life is good! Winter is over and I get a few days off to celebrate spring’s arrival. So what if it is a cool spring. It’s still way warmer than those bone chilling months and I’ve got spring fever! The moon is right so I’m planting onions, potatoes, spinach and lettuce seeds. I’ve got broccoli plants to put in as well.

I feel really bad for all the teachers and kids who had to miss spring break so I thought I’d share a little humor in that vein. I know there will be some “skippers” in the school district!

    By Joan Martin

    Guest columnist

Are vitamin and mineral supplements really beneficial for you?  Will they help you feel better by improving your health?  Consumers are bombarded by marketing campaigns which claim that vitamin and mineral supplements will reduce your risk of chronic disease.  In the grocery store multivitamins and mineral supplements usually have their own section.

  • Beliefs meaningless if you don't fight for them

    By Brian Owens

    Faith columnist

Last Thursday was a sad day for those hoping to see the tide turn in Frankfort regarding legal protection for unborn children.

The House Health and Welfare Committee struck down three pro-life bills that were designed to reduce the approximately 4,000 abortions that are performed yearly in Kentucky. That’s an average of nearly 11 babies murdered every day.
