Birth: Cooper

Josh and Nicole Cooper of Mount Washington announce the birth of their son, Bennett Austin Cooper, born April 10, 2013, at Baptist Hospital East.
He weighed 6 pounds and was 17 1/2 inches long.
Big brother Hudson, 2, welcomed Bennett home.
Maternal grandparents are Perry and Teresa White of Mackville. Maternal great-grandparent is Dorothy Carey.
Paternal grandparents are Larry and Shirley Cooper of Lawrenceburg. Paternal great-grandparents are Don and Kathleen Cooper.

Yett medals in two events at...

LOUISVILLE -- Anderson County did not finish among the team leaders at the state Class 3A track and field meet Saturday, but there were still plenty of smiles in the Bearcat camp.

The meet was held at the University of Louisville.

“To see how we did as a unit, it is quite an improvement,” Anderson assistant coach Jason Dickerson said. Dickerson was in charge of the team as head coach Robert Meacham was fulfilling a military commitment.

Net Cats shut out in rain-...

 To say the Region 8 tennis tournament experienced a wacky week is an understatement. Saying it did not go as Anderson County had hoped is not.

The Bearcats and Lady Bearcats were shut out of state qualifiers in a week that might have been dominated by the weather more than anyone's serve or backhand. Monday's first round was delayed, delayed again, then eventually called after a few matches because of rains that threatened all week.

Truck tuggers’ first
meet is Saturday
The Kentucky Truck Tuggers will hold its first tug of the season Saturday, May 18 at Eagle Lake Convention Center, the group announced.
The tug will benefit Relay for Life.
Start time is 6 p.m.
Admission is $8, with children under 5 admitted free.
The tug will feature several classes, including three sanctioned classes: 4,200 pound 4x4, 5,500 pound 2-wheel drive, and 6,000 pound 4x4. It will also include local stock classes.

Anderson County still rules 30th...

Anderson County overcame an uncharacteristically sloppy performance to score an 8-6 win over Collins in the 30th District Tournament championship game played on a soggy Anderson field Thursday night.

The Lady Bearcats committed three errors in the field and had several base running gaffes that included a pair of would-be base stealers gunned down after missing signs, according to Anderson coach Brian Glass.

TRACK: Eight Bearcats qualify...

LEXINGTON – Eight might be enough for some people, but not for Anderson County track.

Last Thursday, at Lafayette High School, eight Bearcats qualified for seven events this week's Class AAA state meet meet, to be held Saturday at the University of Louisville. It is the highest number of Anderson entries in recent years, but Anderson coach Robert Meacham sees his team's showing as a preview of what could be some stellar track years on the horizon.

The Anderson County Historical Society will meet May 23 at 7 p.m. at the Anderson Public Library.
This month’s presenters, Ann Gibbs and Kenneth Moffett, will discuss the life of the late Dr. Salathiel Gibbs, a long-time physician in the Glensboro area of Anderson County.
The meeting is free.

Missed opportunities cost...

Anderson County needed perfection, but the Bearcats only got near that mark Tuesday night.

Collins ended Anderson's season when Dan Sanders ripped a two-out single, scoring Mason Jeffries in the bottom of the ninth inning, giving the Titans a 1-0 win in the 30th District semi-finals at Shelby County.

Jeffries, who had reached on a fielder's choice, easily scored the game-winner when Sanders' hit fell in.

Help victim of Boston bombing

To the editor:
Thank you for covering the story on Rebekah and Noah Gregory being injured in the Boston Marathon bombings.
Rebekah’s mother, Tina Catlett Gregory, is a graduate of Anderson County High School and her grandparents, Dave and Ruby Catlett are residents of Lawrenceburg.
Rebekah continues to recover and the doctors are working hard to help save her leg. Her mother, Tina, has remained by her bedside for nearly a month now.
