Senior citizens need our help

To the editor:
Several weeks ago I was approached by an agency to serve on a committee.
I have been approached by several others in the past, and have normally agreed to do so, but this one was different. I agreed immediately because this one is very special to me.

Woman’s Club event raises $1,500

The Lawrenceburg Pierian Woman’s Club raised approximately $1,500 for the Backpack Buddies program during the Hats Off! luncheon held April 27 in the Family Living Center at St. Lawrence Catholic Church.
The Backpack Buddies program provides weekend food for needy Anderson County students, according to the press release.
After lunch, Martha Caywood of The Derby Shoppe and Raggs in Danville again presented the style show, with club members and friends modeling.

SOFTBALL: Rivalry gets ailing...

There's nothing like a good old-fashioned rivalry to get a softball team out of a little bit of a funk.

Granted, Anderson County did not blow 30th District foe Shelby County off the field last Thursday, getting just five hits in a 3-0 home field win.

And to be sure, the Shelby County of 2013, while vastly improved since the first time the teams had met nearly a month before, is not the same Shelby that was locked in a perennial battle with Anderson for Eighth Region supremacy just a few years back.

Tuesday was a tough day for Anderson County tennis as all of the Bearcat hopes for state tournament berths went by the wayside.

BASEBALL canceled Friday

Anderson County's baseball game at Danville, scheduled for Friday night, has been canceled, Anderson athletic director Rick Sallee told The Anderson News Friday morning.

There will be no make-up date.

The Bearcats play at Woodford County on Saturday at noon.  Post-season play begins with the 30th District Tournament Tuesday night vs. Collins at Shelby County at 6 p.m.

State champs!

The Anderson County Middle School softball team captured the Kentucky state championship Saturday night with a 3-2 win over previously undefeated Scott County in the final game at Cardinal Run Park in Lexington.

Scott had defeated Anderson, 10-2, in a pool play game earlier in the tournament. The first two games of the tournament were pool play, sending teams to a single elimination tournament format later in the tournament.

Mount Eden Saddle Club hosts horse show
Mount Eden Saddle Club will host a horse show May 11 at 6 p.m.
The event will feature youth, adult Western, gaited pleasure and contest classes.
The horse show will be located at the Mount Eden Ruritan Grounds on Mount Eden Rd/Highway 53.

Magistrates approve spending $...

A public swimming facility in Anderson County inched closer to reality Tuesday when the fiscal court approved spending $15,000 on a feasibility study designed to determine what it can, and can’t afford.
Magistrates voted 6-1 to pay for the study out of money collected during the past decade through fundraisers that has been earmarked for a swimming pool. Magistrate Juretta Wells cast the lone no vote.

All Veterans Reunion to be held...

The seventh All Veterans Reunion in Kentucky is scheduled for May 17-18 starting at noon on Friday at the American Legion Post 34 fairgrounds, according to a news release.
All veterans and veterans’ families are welcome, event organizers said. The event is also open to the public.
Activities include a candlelight service on Friday at 8:30 p.m. at the Healing Field, the Scott Harper memorial motorcycle show and live entertainment Friday and Saturday.
Opening ceremonies begin Saturday at 10 a.m., with the veterans’ ceremony at 2 p.m.
