Student named to National Society of Collegiate Scholars
Braden Peyton of Lawrenceburg has accepted a membership in The National Society of Collegiate Scholars (NSCS), according to a news release.
The National Society of Collegiate Scholars is an honors organization that recognizes and elevates high achievers.
NSCS provides career and graduate school connections, leadership and service experiences, access to discounts and savings as well as nearly half a million dollars in scholarship annually, according to a press release from NSCS.
 

Anderson County Scholarship Fund...

Scholarship grants for academic year 2013-14 have been made to 35 students, 32 of whom were selected by the selection committee of the Anderson County Scholarship Fund, it was announced in a news release.
The United Methodist Church Scholarship Committee of Lawrenceburg selected the remaining three students.

Vernon Vallandingham Record, 92

Vernon Vallandingham Record, 92, of Louisville, died May 7, 2013, at the Masonic Home.
He was a native of Salvisa, Ky., and was the son of the late Will and Ell Trisler Record.
Vernon was a retired mortician, having served in the funeral profession since August 1946 and still retaining his current licenses at his time of death.

Recycling center to move forward

To the editor:
After many months of waiting, Anderson County’s new recycling program will be launching soon.
Last spring, the county received grant money from the state to help improve its recycling program. With this money, the county purchased a skid steer loader, a cardboard baler and seven collection trailers.
To support the program, the city purchased two additional trailers, making the total nine.

Family thankful for help

To the editor:
I am writing this to the editor because I think just about everyone should read this article.
To the people of Anderson County and surrounding counties, we want to say thank you.
Our son-in-law Johnny Simpson had a massive stroke on Oct. 20, 2012. He was in intensive care stroke unit for 10 weeks at the University of Louisville. For eight of the 10 weeks, we didn’t know if he was going to live.
On Dec. 21, we started seeing some improvement and he was moved to Cardinal Hill on Dec. 29. He was there until the end of February.

WKU student receives scholarship...

Western Kentucky University student Jessica Brumley of Lawrenceburg was recently awarded a U.S. Department of State Critical Language Scholarship (CLS) to study Chinese in China during the summer of 2013, according to a press release.
Brumley is one of approximately 610 U.S. undergraduate and graduate students who received a scholarship from the U.S. Department of State’s CLS Program in 2013.
