Engagement: Smith-Sims

Mr. and Mrs. Brad and Susan Smith of Lawrenceburg announce the engagement and upcoming marriage of their daughter, Jenna Nichole Smith, to William Spencer Sims, son of Mr. and Mrs. Doug and Sherry Sims of Willisburg.
The bride is a 2006 graduate of Anderson County High School and a 2010 graduate of Western Kentucky University where she earned a bachelor’s degree in corporate communications and marketing. Upon graduation she returned to her family’s business and is employed as an event coordinator at Eagle Lake Convention Center in Lawrenceburg.

The five-digit zip code number assigned to Lawrenceburg by the Post Office Department was 40342, said Postmaster W.S.T. Johnson.
The zip code, the Post Office’s revolutionary new system of mail dispatch and delivery, went into effect July 1.
Other zip codes and postmasters in Anderson County were: Alton Station, Mrs. Sue McGuffey, code 40301; Gee, Mrs. Mary Gillis, 40323; Sinai, Mrs. Ruth Hoskins, 40375.

Pigeon Fork hosts homecoming
Pigeon Fork Baptist Church special Homecoming service will be held June 23 at 11 a.m.
The Rev. Brian Owens will be preaching and New Vision Gospel will be singing. The public is welcome. Pigeon Fork Baptist Church is located at 5090 Hickory Ridge Road, Lawrenceburg.

Mount Eden Christian
welcomes new pastor
The Mount Eden Christian Church family welcomes Larry Clarke as its senior minister. Clarke’s first Sunday was April 28. He resides in Lawrenceburg with his wife, Renita, and their daughter, Elizabeth. Their oldest daughter, Sarah, is married and lives in Frankfort.
Clarke brings years of secular experience as well as ministry experience to the pulpit, according to a press release.

The suspicions of conspiracy theorists seem to have been confirmed in recent weeks with the revelation that the IRS has been targeting specific groups and individuals for stricter scrutiny, such as members of the tea party movement, religious groups and other so-called conservative entities; it seems that even some families who have adopted were placed under their microscope.
To add fuel to the fire, it now seems that the NSA has been collecting surveillance data from United States citizens through the monitoring of phone calls and e-mails.

Superintendent: Outgoing principal’s new job not new position

Former Anderson County High School principal Ronnie Fields will continue to work in the Anderson County school district as a “director of district-wide programs and operations” starting July 1.
Fields resigned from his position as principal on May 21, and the principal vacancy was announced May 29.
Fields had been the principal at Anderson County High School for the last three years.

Biker lands in truck’s bed following collision

The driver of a motorcycle flew over the handlebars and landed into the bed of a pickup truck after the two vehicles collided Monday afternoon on US 62 in Lawrenceburg.
First responders found Douglas Bater, 53, of Louisville in the back of the truck when they arrived, where they treated him while waiting for a helicopter to arrive to transport him to an area hospital.
Bater was listed in stable condition as of Monday night and is expected to survive, according to Deputy Patrick Beasley of the Anderson County Sheriff’s Office.

Compassionate Friends announce upcoming meetings
The Compassionate Friends will host meetings for bereavement parents who have lost children of any age.
Meetings are held on the first Thursday from 6:30-8:30 p.m. and the third Monday from 6:30-8:30 p.m. at the hospice building, 643 Teton Trail in Frankfort.

Principal named at middle school

The site-based decision-making council for Anderson County Middle School named Jeanna Kidd, Garrad County Middle School principal, as the new middle school principal for the upcoming school year.
After interviewing and vetting candidates, the five members of the council selected Kidd on June 2.
Kidd will start her new job July 1 as the middle school principal for 2013-2014.
