Social studies teacher elected KEA vice president

Delegates to the 141st KEA Delegate Assembly elected Lisa Petrey-Kirk to a three-year term as vice president of the 42,000-member Kentucky Education Association, according to a press release.
Petrey-Kirk, a 1983 graduate of Eastern Kentucky University and a National Board Certified Teacher, has taught all of her 26 years at Anderson County Middle School.

Library lawsuit moving forward, donations sought

The lawsuit threatened two weeks ago against the Anderson Public Library has yet to be filed, but those suing say they still plan to do so.
“We’re in the developing stages and getting our briefs together,” said Harold Todd, one of those involved. “We still have some legwork to do, but we are still moving forward.”

Property owners on historic district: ‘Don’t do it’

Property owners raised their hands high during last Tuesday’s public hearing to say one thing to the city council about a proposed historic district in Lawrenceburg.
Don’t do it.  
“People that live there don’t want it,” city councilman Thomas Vaughn, who attended the hearing along with four of his fellow councilmen, said in a follow-up interview. “They live there, they don’t want it.”

Mount Eden Saddle Club hosts horse show
Mount Eden Saddle Club will host a horse show May 11 at 6 p.m.
The event will feature youth, adult Western, gaited pleasure and contest classes.
The horse show will be located at the Mount Eden Ruritan Grounds on Mount Eden Rd/Highway 53.

Nine-year-old poultry farmer hits pay dirt

She bought her new iPad, paid off her grandfather and even had enough left to purchase another batch of chicks.
Leah Zimmerman, 9, the subject of a front page article in the April 17 edition of The Anderson News that featured her efforts to replace a broken iPad by raising and selling chickens, has hit pay dirt, according to an e-mail from her father, John.
He said they took the chicks to the twice-monthly chicken swap held in the West Park Shopping Plaza parking lot, but rain shortened it and she only sold eight of the 100 chicks she had purchased.
