Brenda Kay Martin Bowen, 64

Brenda Kay Martin Bowen, 64, of Lawrenceburg, died Sunday, May 5, 2013, at Frankfort Regional Medical Center.
She was the daughter of the late Ruel “Bud” and Gladys Drury Martin.  
She was a member of Anderson Christian Church, Willing Workers Sunday School Class.  She was a funeral director for Gash Memorial Chapel for 27 years and an employee of L & W Emergency Equipment for nine years. She was also a former hairdresser for Curlette Beauty Shop.

Middle school to perform ‘Best of Both Worlds’ musical

Anderson County Middle School will perform the musical “Best of Both Worlds” on May 10-12 in the middle school’s multi-purpose room.
Friday and Saturday performances are at 7 p.m., and Sunday’s performance will be at 3 p.m.
Tickets are $3 for those over the age of 5.
The show is about fairytale creatures that find a portal into a middle school and turn everything upside down in their efforts to get back home, according to event organizers.
 

Woman’s Club event raises $1,500

The Lawrenceburg Pierian Woman’s Club raised approximately $1,500 for the Backpack Buddies program during the Hats Off! luncheon held April 27 in the Family Living Center at St. Lawrence Catholic Church.
The Backpack Buddies program provides weekend food for needy Anderson County students, according to the press release.
After lunch, Martha Caywood of The Derby Shoppe and Raggs in Danville again presented the style show, with club members and friends modeling.

TRACK: Eight Anderson performers advance to state meet

Eight Anderson County High School track performers have advanced to the state meet, to be held Saturday at the University of Louisville.

COLUMN: Ready or not, tourney time is here

It's safe to say that the 2013 baseball-softball season has been one full of surprises around Anderson County.

Not many expected the Anderson County High School softball team to be sitting at 21-9 heading into this week. Few really thought the Lady Bearcats would spend some time in the Top 25, although they dropped out last week. And not many really thought of Anderson as a legitimate threat to make its first state tournament appearance since 2008.

TRACK: Eight Bearcats qualify for state meet

LEXINGTON – Eight might be enough for some people, but not for Anderson County track.

Last Thursday, at Lafayette High School, eight Bearcats qualified for seven events this week's Class AAA state meet meet, to be held Saturday at the University of Louisville. It is the highest number of Anderson entries in recent years, but Anderson coach Robert Meacham sees his team's showing as a preview of what could be some stellar track years on the horizon.

Habitat for Humanity seeks volunteers for building project

Anderson County Habitat for Humanity chapter is looking for volunteers to assist with roofing and installing windows and doors for an Anderson County Habitat for Humanity residence on May 18.
Habitat for Humanity is now accepting applications through July 15 for Anderson County residents to be the recipient of the 2014 Habitat for Humanity house.
Applications can be picked up at both locations of Century Bank in Lawrenceburg and can be turned in at the bank.
