Help victim of Boston bombing

To the editor:
Thank you for covering the story on Rebekah and Noah Gregory being injured in the Boston Marathon bombings.
Rebekah’s mother, Tina Catlett Gregory, is a graduate of Anderson County High School and her grandparents, Dave and Ruby Catlett are residents of Lawrenceburg.
Rebekah continues to recover and the doctors are working hard to help save her leg. Her mother, Tina, has remained by her bedside for nearly a month now.

Agriculture construction class installs garden tables for Heritage Hall residents

Anderson County High School students in Randy Adams’ agriculture construction class recently installed “stand up” gardens for residents of Heritage Hall in Lawrenceburg, according to a news release.
Activities Director Penny Vest asked Adams if students could build a stand up garden so that residents could enjoy getting outside and planting vegetables, Adams said via e-mail.
Students built two garden tables and delivered them May 6 to Heritage Hall and helped residents start a few plants in the new garden.

Mary Whitney Sparrow, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Maurice Sparrow, fell from a car her mother was driving at the Broadway and South Main Intersection and sustained a severe abrasion of the face. She was recovering satisfactorily.

Clarence Sparrow sustained a minor injury to his right leg while watching Stewart Sea make a lead fishing sinker.

Shelby County high school reunion to be held July 20

The Shelby County High School Class of 1978 is having its 35th class reunion July 20 at the Gallrein Farms Pavilion. Cocktails will be from 6-7 p.m. (BYOB with soft drink mixers provided.) The classmates’ dinner will be held from 7-8:30 p.m. At 8:30 p.m., the class will open the reunion to any member of the classes of 1977 and 1979 who would like to share memories and embellished stories with old friends, event organizers said. There will be a $5 cover charge to cover the cost of soft drinks and mixers.

Teddy Roosevelt’s home on Long Island, NY, is stuffed with books as well as a frightening grizzly bear looming in frozen growl over small elementary student visitors.
The museum was both terrifying and fascinating to a fourth grader with career aspirations of becoming a pioneer and creating her own head cheese.    

Only antidote is honest power

To the editor:
Money-purchased thievery (e.g. monopolistic drugs) and money-purchased incompetence (e.g. our $16.7 trillion debt) by greedy profiteers produce the stupid legislative outcomes in Washington (e.g. a bridge to nowhere).
For years, Speaker Boehner blamed President Obama and Senator Reid for not submitting their budgets. He should have blamed himself. He was responsible for their irresponsibility and therefore an equal party to their malfeasance.

Habitat for Humanity seeks volunteers for building project

Anderson County Habitat for Humanity chapter is looking for volunteers to assist with roofing and installing windows and doors for an Anderson County Habitat for Humanity residence on May 18.
Habitat for Humanity is now accepting applications through July 15 for Anderson County residents to be the recipient of the 2014 Habitat for Humanity house.
Applications can be picked up at both locations of Century Bank in Lawrenceburg and can be turned in at the bank.

Students receive awards at Conservation District banquet

The Anderson County Conservation District held its annual banquet April 23 to honor students for participating in the Jim Claypool Art and Writing contest.  
“The Art and Writing contest was made possible through the hard work and dedication of the Kentucky Farm Bureau Federation, Kentucky Association of Conservation Districts and the Anderson County Conservation District,” according to the Conservation District’s press release.

Council approves first reading of $3.559M budget

The city council unanimously approved the first reading of its $3.559 million budget for the upcoming fiscal year, a $43,400 increase.
The budget’s expenses for health insurance may need to be adjusted, according to Mayor Edwinna Baker during the finance committee meeting Monday afternoon, because of delays in receiving health insurance rates for employees.
Baker said the expenditures for employees’ health insurance will change and most likely be higher once the city receives health insurance rate information by June 1.

Marching one last time

High school senior Katherine Green said she’s only cried of joy twice in her life.
The first time was when she found out the marching band was going to finals.  
The second was when she got into the architecture program at the College of Design at the University of Kentucky.
As most of the Anderson County Marching Bearcats seniors gathered in a hallway outside the band room last month to discuss the last four years (for some the last five years, not every senior chose the same memory from the 2012 season.
