Hazardous gases produced in fire...

The substance that caught fire last Friday is essentially the material that coats automotive glass and prevents it from shattering.
Called polyvinyl butyral, the material is essentially stripped away from automotive glass recycled at the plant and stored in a large pile at Dlubak Glass, located at 1052 Industry Drive.
The material is “not known to contain toxic chemicals,” according to a material safety data sheet released by one of the product’s manufacturers, Dupont, in 2010.
It does, however, release a number of chemicals when burned.

The Compassionate Friends will host meetings for bereavement parents who have lost children of any age.
Meetings are held on the first Thursday from 6:30-8:30 p.m. and the third Monday from 6:30-8:30 p.m. at the hospice building, 643 Teton Trail in Frankfort.

The Kentucky Historical Marker Association erected a marker at Fox Creek, the first of several to be erected in Anderson County.
Wyatt Shely, a member of the association, said that Anderson County afforded a higher than average percentage of troops in both Mexican and Civil Wars, and that graves of many distinguished leaders are not marked.

Shelby County high school...

The Shelby County High School Class of 1978 is having its 35th class reunion July 20 at the Gallrein Farms Pavilion. Cocktails will be from 6-7 p.m. (BYOB with soft drink mixers provided.) The classmates’ dinner will be held from 7-8:30 p.m. At 8:30 p.m., the class will open the reunion to any member of the classes of 1977 and 1979 who would like to share memories and embellished stories with old friends, event organizers said. There will be a $5 cover charge to cover the cost of soft drinks and mixers.

Auxiliary lends hand, keeps...

The Anderson County Fire Department’s Auxiliary — with the help of several local businesses — helped keep volunteers cool and fed during last Friday’s fire at the industrial park.
The auxiliary, comprised of volunteers and spouses of firefighters, made ready countless bottles of water and food during the three-hour blaze.
They said Domino’s Pizza provided 10 pizzas, and Dairy Queen provided several bags of burgers and fries.
The Salvation Army provided water and sandwiches, along with the Red Cross.

Residents search social media...

Social media was flooded with posts, comments and photos as Anderson County residents witnessed the story of the Lawrenceburg industrial park fire unfold last Friday.
When a five-story pile of material began to burn Friday near the Dlubak Glass Company in the Lawrenceburg industrial park, Anderson County residents were burning with questions and comments of their own.
As The Anderson News Facebook page uploaded photos taken at the scene of the fire, readers offered prayers for the firefighters.

Lawrenceburg Fire and Rescue Chief Bobby Hume said 75 firefighters from across the region responded to Friday’s fire at Dbulak Glass.

Lane closures announced on...

All four lanes of the Bluegrass Parkway are scheduled to be closed Monday, May 20 from 8 p.m. to 6 a.m., and Tuesday, May 21 from 8 p.m. to 6 a.m., the state’s transportation cabinet announced.

Traffic will be reduced to one lane in each direction through July 31 to demolish a bridge over the parkway at Fairview Church Road, located at the Anderson-Washington county line.

The recommended detour when all four lanes are closes for eastbound traffic is: use exit 42 to KY 555 to US 62 to KY 53 and rejoin the parkway at exit 48.

Heroin suspect leads police on...

A Lexington man is behind bars after leading police on an early-morning foot chase Saturday that began on Broadway and ended Suzanne Street.
Deputy Brian Wooldridge of the Anderson County Sheriff’s Office noticed that Jarrod T. Baker, 20, of 1658 Maywick View Lane was unsteady on his feet while pumping fuel at Five Star on Broadway, according to a report filed by officer Josh Satterly of the Lawrenceburg Police Department.
