Mount Eden Christian
welcomes new pastor
The Mount Eden Christian Church family welcomes Larry Clarke as its senior minister. Clarke’s first Sunday was April 28. He resides in Lawrenceburg with his wife, Renita, and their daughter, Elizabeth. Their oldest daughter, Sarah, is married and lives in Frankfort.
Clarke brings years of secular experience as well as ministry experience to the pulpit, according to a press release.

Truck Tug of War
to benefit Relay for Life
Kentucky Truck Tuggers will hold the 2nd Annual Tug for Relay for Life on June 14 at 7 p.m. at Eagle Lake Convention Center. There is a $25 hook fee for participants and admission is $8 (kids under 5 free). For more information, contact Melanie Wiley at 502-219-0806 or Eddie Wiley at 502-803-5975.

The suspicions of conspiracy theorists seem to have been confirmed in recent weeks with the revelation that the IRS has been targeting specific groups and individuals for stricter scrutiny, such as members of the tea party movement, religious groups and other so-called conservative entities; it seems that even some families who have adopted were placed under their microscope.
To add fuel to the fire, it now seems that the NSA has been collecting surveillance data from United States citizens through the monitoring of phone calls and e-mails.

Compassionate Friends announce upcoming meetings
The Compassionate Friends will host meetings for bereavement parents who have lost children of any age.
Meetings are held on the first Thursday from 6:30-8:30 p.m. and the third Monday from 6:30-8:30 p.m. at the hospice building, 643 Teton Trail in Frankfort.

Jennifer Davis and Edward Davis of Lawrenceburg were married March 30, 2013, at St. Paul United Methodist Church in Frankfort.
The Rev. Elvyn Hamilton and Rev. Edward “Buddy” Coleman officiated the ceremony. The bride was given in marriage by her father, Kenneth Powell.
The bride’s parents are Kennth and Gayla Powell of Lawrenceburg. Her grandparent is the late Pauline Perkins.
The groom’s parents are Helen Davis and the late Jim Davis of Frankfort. The groom’s grandmother is Maddie Duncan.

According to a recent Gallup poll, more than 75 percent of Americans say that religion is losing its influential ground in our society. How can this be, especially since we live in a nation where we have more than 300,000 congregations that identify themselves as “Christian” and over 75 percent of Americans who identify themselves as “Christian”?

City council approves $3.559...

The city council unanimously approved the second reading of its $3.559 million budget for the upcoming fiscal year, including a 1.74 percent salary increase for mayor, city council and all city employees.
The council approved the first reading of the 2013-2014 budget during its May meeting.
All six council members were present during Monday night’s meeting.

Shiloh Christian Church
to hold summer gospel gathering
The Shiloh Christian Church will be hosting a summer gospel gathering June 8 at 6 p.m.
Lots of great bluegrass and country gospel music will be performed by various local musicians, according to the church’s press release.
“Join us for an evening of worship through music,” event organizers said.
Shiloh Christian Church is located at 1122 Willisburg Road in Lawrenceburg.

Council ponders payroll tax

A rumored payroll tax being considered by the Lawrenceburg City Council is a rumor no more.
Although the council isn’t scheduled to vote on the idea of placing the tax on those who work within city limits, at least two councilmen have discussed it, including one with Mayor Edwinna Baker.
City councilman Ken Evans verified that he has discussed a payroll tax with fellow councilman Larry Giles, adding that the discussion originally surfaced during a recent Lawrenceburg/Anderson County Economic Development Authority (EDA) meeting.
