  • Sign spat sparks civil war between...

    There’s a bit of a civil war breaking out in eastern Shelby County, and the first shot wasn’t even heard.
    This is about Waddy and Peytona – or is it Peytona and Waddy? – neighbors along Highway 395, which crosses Interstate 64 about 10 miles west of Lawrenceburg.
    You may not have noticed, but if you travel eastbound on I-64, new signs placed there by the state now list the exit for “Peytona/Waddy” rather than giving Waddy the top billing it has had since the exit opened in the late 1950s.

    Erickson anniversary

    Carol and Larry Erickson of Versailles will celebrate their 50th wedding anniversary with a family dinner at Eddie Montgomery’s Steakhouse in Harrodsburg on Oct. 15.

    The couple were married Oct. 15, 1960 in Minneapolis, Minn.

    Mrs. Erickson, the former Carol Gibson, is a daughter of the late Gordon and Virginia Gibson of Minneapolis, Minn.

    She is retired.

    Mr. Erickson is a son of the late Arnold and Sadie Erickson of Annandale, Minn.

    He is retired.

    Beverly Simpson of Lawrenceburg, Rodney Proctor of Lawrenceburg and Tamara Mercer of Houstonville announce the engagement and forthcoming marriage of their children, Tamara Simpson and Jeremy Proctor.

    The bride-to-be is a daughter of the late Edward Simpson, and a granddaughter of Kenneth and Joyce Sutherland and Johnnie Sr. and Ann Simpson, all of Lawrenceburg.

    She is a 2004 graduate of Anderson County High School, and is currently a stay-at-home mom to the couple’s 2-year-old daughter, Zadia.

    Shirley Cox of Lawrenceburg and James A. Monroe of Mt. Eden announce the engagement and forthcoming marriage of their son, David A. Monroe, to Robin Marie Brown, daughter of L.T. and Mary Sharp of Shelbyville.

    A wedding is planned for Oct. 10 at 1 p.m. at the Mt. Eden Ruritan Club in Mt. Eden.

    All friends and relatives are invited.

    Darnell 50th anniversary

    Alma Gene and Danny Darnell recently celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary with a luncheon hosted by their family.

    They were married Sept. 1, 1960.

    Mrs. Darnell, the former Alma Moore, is a daughter of the late Clyde and Christine Moore of Lawrenceburg.

    Mr. Darnell is a son of the late J.C. and Velma Darnell of Lawrenceburg.

    The Darnells are farmers.

    They have two children, Christy Burke and her husband, Wayne, and Danette Warford and her husband, Kevin, both of Lawrenceburg.

    She is a 2009 graduate of Anderson County High School and attends Bluegrass Community and Technical College.

    She is employed as an office support assistant II by the Department of Corrections in Frankfort.

    The bride-to-be is a granddaughter of Russ and Fran Williamson, the late Phyllis Williamson, and the late Clarice and Leon Thornberry, all of Lawrenceburg.

    She is a 2007 graduate of Auburn University where she earned a Bachelor of Fine Arts in theatre performance.

    Rachel and Casey Quisenberry of Lawrenceburg announce the birth of their son, Max Patrick Quisenberry, on Aug. 3 at Central Baptist Hospital in Lexington.

    He weighed 6 pounds, 15 ounces and was 19 inches long.

    He was welcomed home by a sister, Jenna, 3.

    His maternal grandparents are Mike and Becky Townsend of Lawrenceburg.

    His maternal great-grandmother is Louise Smock of Danville.

    His paternal grandparents are Vaughn and Sharon Quisenberry of Lawrenceburg.

    Christopher Mattox and Holly Murphy-Mattox of Frankfort announce the birth of their son, Harper Liam Mattox, on July 19, 2010 at Central Baptist Hospital in Lexington.

    He weighed 8 pounds, 4 ounces and was 21 inches long.

    His maternal grandparents are Arnold and Alma Murphy of Lawrenceburg and the late Mary Jane Richardson.

    His paternal grandmother is Suzanne Rodriguez of Columbia, S.C.

    His paternal great-grandmother is Rosemary Terry of Aiken, S.C.

    Jeffrey Byrd and Brittany Waughtal of Harrodsburg announce the birth of their daughter, Katilyn Emily Byrd, on June 21 at the Frankfort Regional Medical Center in Frankfort.

    She weighed 8 pounds, 6 1/2 ounces and was 20 inches long.

    She was welcomed home by a sister, Kyleigh Jean, 3.

    Her maternal grandparents are Katherine Waughtal of Lawrenceburg and Tracy and Debbie Dresch of Independence, Mo.

    Her maternal great-grandparents are Maebeth Waughtal of Branson, Mo. and Paul and Marylyn Dresch of El Dorado Spring, Mo.

    Wells anniversary

    Truman and Lois Wells of Lawrenceburg will celebrate their 60th wedding anniversary with a reception on Sunday, Sept. 26 from 2 to 5 p.m. at Lawrenceburg United Methodist Church Simpson Center at 565 Carlton Drive.

    They were married Sept. 23, 1950 by the Rev. Herman E. Rowlette at his home in Louisville.

    Mrs. Wells, the former Lois Lawrence, is a daughter of the late Charles and Roma Lawrence of Shelbyville.

    Mr. Wells is a son of the late Roy and Lillis Wells of Lawrenceburg.

    He is a World War II veteran and a retired contractor.

    She is retired from state government.

    Mr. Richardson is a son of Billy Gene and Joyce Richardson.

    He is retired from state government.

    The Richardsons have three children, Katie Richardson and Jamie Richardson of Lawrenceburg and Amy Wetherly of Frankfort.
