  • Brownies clean park

    The Brownies of Girl Scout Troop 753 spent a recent Saturday morning completing a community service project at the Anderson County Community Park. The girls and some family members picked up trash in the park.

    “We have an excellent grounds staff at the park because it really was pretty clean,” said troop leader Jaynel Roberts. “Maybe between the three bags we had we would have filled one if we combined them.”

  • ‘Second Sunday&rsquo...

    This Sunday — the second Sunday of the month — Anderson County citizens are invited downtown to get active.

    For the first time, Anderson County is participating in “Second Sunday,” which is a “statewide event that encourages all forms of physical activity within the local community and is designed to get Kentuckians moving,” according to the event website, www.2ndsundayky.com.

  • Truck pull to benefit 4-H

    A truck and tractor pull to benefit Anderson County 4-H is planned for Saturday, Oct. 3.

    The event will begin around 6 p.m. in the Anderson County Community Park, said Marva Gill, Anderson County Extension agent for 4-H youth development.

  • Local Huddle House featured in...

    Phil Roberts is only Huddle House’s second biggest fan.

    Who’s the first? His family.

    Even so, all six members of the Roberts clan took home top honors in the “I Love Huddle House” nationwide video contest.

    Roberts and his family (wife, Lisa; 5-year-old daughter, Ashley; and 3-year-old triplets, Benjamin, Casey and Danielle) live in Lexington, but filmed their video at the closest Huddle House to them, which is here in Lawrenceburg.

  • Man thought to be county's...

    The man believed to be the oldest Anderson County citizen died Friday.

    Several sources, including the Anderson County Clerk’s office, said that to their knowledge, Charles O. Bertram, 103, was Anderson County’s oldest citizen.

  • Congressman Chandler honors WWII vet

    Congressman Ben Chandler made a surprise visit to Anderson County on Friday to honor Truman Wells, a World War II veteran.

    Well, it was supposed to be a surprise.

    Wells’ daughter Susan Young and her husband, Tony, planned to keep the visit a secret until Chandler arrived Friday afternoon to present Wells with a flag flown over the nation’s capitol in his honor.

    However, the cat was let out of the bag on Thursday night so other family members could plan to attend, Tony Young said.

    Megan Alisa Webb was crowned the 2009-10 National American Miss Kentucky Junior Teen on June 29.

    The event took place at the Hyatt Regency in Lexington, and Webb was selected from 115 girls from across the state.

  • Kentucky Mountain Saddle Horse...

    The Kentucky Mountain Saddle Horse Association will host a horse show July 10 and 11 at the fairgrounds in Lawrenceburg, the association announced in a news release.

    Friday night’s show will include conformation and under saddle classes and will be begin at 5 p.m. Saturday’s show will start at 1 p.m. and will include trail obstacle classes where horses and riders negotiate obstacles like gates, tarpaulins, mailboxes, cones and bridges. Saturday’s line up will also include more under saddle classes and at the end of the evening, the championship classes.

    Shyanne Crane, 8, donated her hair to Locks of Love last week. This is the second time she has donated to the organization.

  • Scouts improve gravesites of...

    They were among Lawrenceburg’s poorest.

    When they died, there was no money to bury them in a cemetery, leaving family members no option but to have them interred in a field that now borders the county’s solid waste facility and highway barns.

    Although they can’t do anything about what happened to these people in the past, Cub Scouts with Pack 38, Den 9 can make the area around the graves more visually pleasing, and began that work last Saturday afternoon.
