    No one is expecting Anderson County and Shelby County o play for the boys' Eighth Region championship this season. But that does not mean Friday's game between the old rivals is not important. In fact, it could have enormous post-season implications for both clubs.

  • Lady Bearcats pummel Dunbar

    Anderson County reeled off the first seven points of the night and never looked back as the Lady Bearcats pounded Paul L. Dunbar 79-55 in basketball action Tuesday night.
    Anderson went on a 16-2 run midway through the second quarter to effectively put things away. The Lady Bearcats owned a 44-28 halftime lead and never allowed Dunbar to get within 15 points in the second half.  Anderson's lead ballooned to as much as 30 points late in the game.

  • Lady Bearcats rout Spencer

    Mackenzie Cann scored a career-high 29 points and Sydney Brown added 21 as Anderson County romped past district rival Spencer County, 79-46, Thursday night. The host Lady Bearcats led 41-11 at the half, then cruised to their third straight win to open the season. The Lady Bearcats are 1-0 in district play.     Anderson County used a third quarter explosion to rout regional rival Oldham County in girls' high school basketball action Tuesday night.
    The homestanding Lady Bearcats registered a 79-59 win for their second victory in as many games.

    LEXINGTON – Anderson County learned about itself last Tuesday.
    And the Lady Bearcats had to like what they found out in a 51-46 win at Lafayette to open the basketball season they are intent on making special.

  • Bearcats rally late for win at Casey

    Anderson County's boys' basketball team seems intent on proving the doubters wrong.
    That is what was apparent last Tuesday when the Bearcats rallied from seven points down in the fourth quarter to take a hard-fought 60-57 win at Casey County in the season opener for both teams.
    Erik Newton, Anderson's only returning starter from 2010, scored Anderson's first 10 points, then sank a pair of free throws with 10 seconds to go to provide the winning margin for the Bearcats.

  • Football Bearcats named first team All-District

    Nine Anderson County football players were named first team All-District by the coaches of Class 5A, District 4 last week.
    Bearcat coach Mark Peach was also named the district's Coach of the Year after leading the Bearcats, picked third in pre-season by most polls, to the district championship. It was only the third district title in school history but second in the last four years.

  • Bardstown rips Bearcats

    Bardstown rips Bearcats

    Bardstown bolted to an early lead and never looked back as the Tigers routed visiting Anderson County 68-38 in boys' high school basketball action Monday night.
    Bardstown led 18-6 after the first quarter and extended the lead to 35-16 by halftime.

  • Lady Cats beat top-ranked Marion in scrimmage

    The Anderson County girls' basketball team did not expect to sneak up on anyone this season. The Lady Bearcats assured that Saturday when they defeated top-ranked Marion County, 47-41 in the Kentucky Basketball Academy pre-season showcase at Rupp Arena in Lexington.

    Mackenzie Cann led Anderson with 13 points but it was a total team effort, according to Anderson coach Tony Kaya.
    "The kids played hard, but necessarily well," Kays said.

  • Peach, Bearcats looking ahead to 2011

    Mark Peach was wearing a Notre Dame t-shirt last Tuesday.
    The irony, as he sat down to talk about the just completed football season and what lies ahead for his Anderson County Bearcats, could not be overlooked or overstated.

    Suffice it to say that, based on what transpired over the last half of the regular season and in the playoffs, expectations are high for 2011.
    Maybe not as out of this world as they perennially are in South Bend, but expectations are such that the time for basking in the Bearcats’ longest post-season run in school history is now in the past.
