  • GIRLS' BASKETBALL: Lexington Catholic bombs away to defeat Lady Bearcats

    No matter how much the game changes, the main
    object of basketball has remained the same since Dr.
    Naismith was looking for a peach basket.
    Make shots. It is still that simple.
    Lexington Catholic made 11 shots from beyond the
    three-point line to defeat host Anderson County 60-
    51 in a battle of girls’ basketball teams ranked in the
    pre-season Top 15 on Friday night.
    “We didn’t defend the three at all,” Anderson
    coach Tony Kays said.

  • WRESTLING: Mat Cats win four of five in Wayne County Duals

    The Anderson County wrestlers rolled to four victories in five matches during the Wayne County Duals held Saturday.

    The Bearcats defeated Letcher County Central, Danville, Barren County and Scott County but lost to the host team, a perennial state power.

    Chris McDaniel was undefeated on the day at 132 pounds, while T.W. Stockton (145) and Travis Kaelin (195) were also undefeated on the day.

  • ONLINE EXTRA: Bearcat JV team routs Western Hills


    Running back Nathan Cox rushed for three touchdowns and a two-point conversion as the Anderson County junior varsity football team cruised to an easy 50 – 6 victory over the Western Hills Wolverines at Hollie Warford Stadium. Cox picked up 83 yards on the ground while teammate Chris Toomey made the most out of his two carries, adding 69 yards, a touchdown and a two-point conversion.


  • Bearcats place high at Danville meet

    The Anderson County boys’ cross country team pushed each other to a fourth place finish in the 12-team Boyle County Invitational, held at Danville’s Millennium Park last Thursday.

    Senior Austin Dillow led Anderson, finishing seventh individually out of 113 runners with an 18:00 time over the 5K course.
    Two spots and six seconds behind was junior Dylan Buser while senior Kiefer Williams placed 17th, covering the course in 18:50.

  • Bearcat baseball celebrates season

    The Anderson County High School baseball team celebrated the 2011 season with the annual team awards banquet, held at Anderson-Dean Aquatic Center on Aug. 14.

    The Bearcats won the 30th District championship for the third time in four years, but were ousted from the Eighth Region tournament by eventual champion North Oldham.

  • Anderson tandem flirts with state berth

    Luke Warford and Lowell Gordon were so close to advancing to this week’s state tennis tournament.

    But the cruel reality of an elimination tournament is just that – elimination.

    The Anderson County juniors advanced to the fourth round of last week’s Region 8 tennis tournament at Franklin County High School before falling to Matthew Stewart and Thomas Schaller of Oldham County 6-1, 6-3. Stewart and Schaller advanced to this week’s state tournament. The top four entries advance to the state.

  • BASEBALL ROUNDUP: Cats end season on sour note

    Anderson County took advantage of numerous Franklin County errors and Logan Woodside collected three runs batted in as the Bearcats defeated the Flyers, 6-2, last Thursday night in Frankfort. It was the second time in little more than a week that Anderson had been successful against Franklin.
    Woodside drove in Granville Hayes with a fourth-inning single then belted a two-run home run, his sixth of the season, in the sixth inning to put the icing on Anderson’s cake. Woosided finished at 3-for-4 and scored three runs.

  • SOFTBALL: Lady Bearcats defeat Woodford County

    The Anderson County softball team earned a big win over Woodford County on Wednesday, defeating the Yellow Jackets 4-3 in Versailles.

    Molly Burkhead led the Anderson attack with three hits in four at-bats. Burkhead, a freshman, stole two bases and scored two runs.

    Jessie Crouch smacked a pair of doubles and drove in two runs for the Lady Bearcats. Anderson scored twice in the third and twice in the fifth.
    Corrin Robinson had an RBI single in the third.

    Kelsey New smacked a run-scoring double in the fifth.

  • Barnes’ fight against cancer remembered

    Anderson County got a bit of a surprise Wednesday when long-time rival Franklin County arrived wearing special shirts for the game with the Bearcats at Barnes Memorial Field.
