Spencer County’s Trey Wyatt sank two free throws with 2.6 seconds remaining to seal his team’s 52-48 win at Anderson County on Tuesday night.

Spencer, now 15-4, most likely clinched to top seed in the 30th District Tournament, to be played in late February at Spencer. The Bears are 3-0 in district play. An unlikely set of circumstances would have to occur for the Bears to not be the top seed. Anderson fell to 6-10 and 1-2. The Bearcats lost for the sixth time in seven games, with all six setbacks coming by four points or less.

Anderson County will get a feel for one of the teams expected to challenge the Lady Bearcats for the Eighth Region championship when Owen County comes to town on Saturday afternoon. It will be the first of two regular-season meetings between the Lady Bearcats and Lady Rebels.

But first, the Lady Bearcats will host Western Hills on Thursday night, Jan. 20. Tipoff is set for 7:30 p.m.

Anderson County jumped to a 16-4 lead after a quarter then continued to build the margin on the way to a 68-16 win over visiting Eminence on Friday night.

However, the victory could have been costly as freshman Eriel McKee, who led Anderson with 14 points, suffered what was thought to be a strained knee ligament early in the third quarter. McKee dressed for Saturday's game with Collins but did not play.

Twelve different Anderson players scored as they remained unbeaten in district play and moved to 11-5 on the season.

Even though his team stood at 6-7 through last weekend's games, Anderson County boys' basketball coach Glen Drury believes his team can still make some noise toward a successful season.

“When we started, we never thought this would be a year when we would have a high (won-loss) record,” he said after Monday's practice. “We are really after being a good post-season team.”
