  • Anderson-Shelby doubleheader rescheduled

    The Anderson County vs. Shelby County basketball double-header, postponed by inclement weather on Dec. 17, has been rescheduled for Wednesday, Feb. 2 at Anderson County High School. The girls’ game is set for 6 p.m.  to be followed by the boys’ game.

    A date for honoring Anderson County’s all-time team in celebration of the 100th season of Anderson County basketball has still not been determined.

  • Anderson football banquet rescheduled

    The Anderson County High School football banquet, originally scheduled for Dec. 14, but snowed out, has been rescheduled for Monday, Jan. 10 at 6:30 p.m. The banquet will take place in the school cafeteria, according to head coach Mark Peach.


    Seniors are asked to bring drinks and bread. Juniors should bring desserts while freshmen and sophomores are asked to bring vegetables and salads.

  • Anderson to play Bryan Station in King Classic

    Anderson County will get a test Saturday when the Lady Bearcats take on Bryan Station in the Martin Luther King Classic, held at Paul L. Dunbar High School in Lexington. Tipoff is set for 4:30 p.m.

    Bryan Station has gotten off to a 10-1 start with the only loss coming to defending 11th Region champion Scott County.

    The Anderson-Bryan Station game is the fourth of five games pitting Fayette County schools against teams from around the state.

    Tuesday, Anderson will host Mercer County, which the Lady Bearcats defeated in the Mercer tourney.

  • Elizabethtown is 'not Top 10 for nothing'

    HARRODSBURG – This time, Anderson County could not even stay close.

    Not for long, that is.

    Throughout a month of playing some of the state’s best girls’ basketball teams, the Lady Bearcats had been in the games, even in a position to pull the upset a time or two. They’d lost by one point to Sacred Heart. They had been within four before running out of gas in the final minutes against Perry Central.

  • Pegasus Sports Network announces Bearcat basketball coverage

    The Pegasus Sports Network has announced its internet coverage of the 2010-11 Anderson County Bearcats and Lady Bearcats. The network will provide live internet radio coverage of 15 Anderson County regular season games, plus the entire 30th District and Eighth Region tournaments. In addition, PSN will follow either or both teams if they advance to the Sweet 16.

  • Bond goes undetected, sends Harlan County to Sayre title

    LEXINGTON – This James Bond was not a 007, but he was enough for Harlan County last Thursday night.

    Bond got his golden fingers on a loose ball, then, just as his more famous counterpart, found a view to a kill – in the form of an open lane to the basket – Anderson County’s hope of an improbable championship in the Sayre Holiday Classic.

  • Bearcats hold off Sayre in first game of classic

    LEXINGTON – Anderson County seemed poised to rout host Sayre, scoring the first seven points, then building a lead as large as 33-16 early in the third quarter, but had to hold on to defeat the Spartans, 57-48, in the Sayre Holiday Classic opener last Tuesday night.

    “We will take it,” Anderson coach Glen Drury said. “The kids are going to get better. This was the first time we have had to play with a lead and the kids did not have the experience to know how to protect the lead.”

  • District seeding on the line as Anderson takes on Collins, Eminence

    Now the real season begins for Anderson County. Well, sort of.

    The Bearcats' main concern is to get better each week, hoping to peak when tournament play begins. However, Friday's game with 30th District foe Collins will be a factor in how things shape up in seeding the district tournament.

    "We want to play well in all of our seeding games, so this game is very important," Anderson coach Glen Drury says.

    A first-year school formed out of Shelby County, Collins has gotten off to a 7-4 start under veteran coach Curtis Turley, who coached at Shelby in the late 1990's.

  • Lady Bearcats rout Henry Clay

    Anderson County jumped to a 14-6 lead after a quarter and never looked back as the Lady Bearcats trounced host Henry Clay in girls’ high school basketball action on Tuesday night.

    Freshman Mackenzie Cann buried five 3-point shots and scored 20 points to lead Anderson, which improved to 10-4 on the season. Another freshman, Eriel McKee, scored 13.

    Henry Clay fell to 2-7.

  • Bearcats, Lady Bearcats win in tournaments

    Both Anderson County High School basketball teams recorded victories in holiday tournament play Tuesday night.

    The Bearcats jumped to a quick 7-0 lead and never trailed in defeating Lexington Sayre, 57-48, in the Sayre Holiday Classic. The Bearcats led by as many as 17 points in the third quarter but needed to hit 10 straight free throws in the final three minutes to hold off a furious Sayre rally.

    The Spartans cut Anderson’s lead to four and had a chance to get closer, but the Bearcats hung on.
