  • Lady Mustangs win Mercer tournament

    The Anderson County Middle School girls' soccer team won the King Middle School Pre-Season Tournament Saturday night. The Lady Mustangs beat Bondurant, 7-0, Friday, then defeated Elkhorn in a shootout to win the title.

    They were tied 1-1 with Elkhorn Middle 1-1 at the end of regulation and after a 10-minute overtime. Anderson won the shootout, 4-3. Anderson selections to the All- Tournament team were Madeline Wilson, Lyndsay Chelf and Hannah Drury.

  • Lady Mustangs roll through Bondurant tourney

    The Anderson County Middle School seventh-grade girls' basketball team took the championship of the Bondurant Middle School Tournament on Oct. 29 in Frankfort. The Lady Mustangs defeated the host school 36-21 in the final. Sammy Rogers and Alorra Sims led Anderson with seven points each while Hannah Drury scored six. Others scoring for Anderson were Savannah Courtney with five, Billie Clark and Kristen Freed with four each, Bailey Mattingly with two and Bailey Curry with one.

  • Lady Mustangs roll past Bardstown

    The Anderson County Middle School girls’ basketball A-team rolled to a 41-19 win over Bardstown Thursday night.

    The Lady Mustangs remained unbeaten after ripping Bardstown with a 26-8 explosion in the first half.

    Kaci Currens led Anderson with 15 points, while Bailey Curry added 12.

    “I am very proud of the kids,” Anderson coach Clay Birdwhistell said. “Last year, this team went 0-2 against Bardstown. All week long, I reminded them that Bardstown expected to come in here and win.

  • ONLINE EXTRA: Lady Mustangs score early routs

    Most fans would say there is no way that a basketball game that ends in a 54-3 final can be pretty.

    People that follow the Anderson County Middle School girls' team would beg to differ, especially after the Lady Mustangs dismantled visiting Spencer County last Tuesday night. It would seem they find beauty in being like Bad, Bad Leroy Brown.

    “Junkyard dogs,” was part of Anderson coach Clay Birdwhistell's tweet about the game.

    Anderson led 30-0 at the half and cruised to the win.

  • Loving what he is doing

    Anderson County Middle School’s baseball team had one of its most successful seasons ever. At the helm, in his fourth season as head coach, Graham Carlton has been enjoying the ride.

    His reasons for coaching are simple yet sincere. “I coach for three reasons: I love kids. I love to help kids improve at what they do. And I’m addicted to competition, particularly the part that involves winning,” he says.

  • Lady Mustangs honor eighth-graders

    The Anderson County Middle School girls’ soccer team celebrated its Eighth Grade Night last Thursday.


    They beat Owen County 4-1 to finish their season.


    Madeline Wilson scored twice while Billie Clark and Autumn Miller added goals for the Lady Mustangs. Kennedy Smith and Hannah Drury shared keeper duties for Anderson.


    “This group of eighth-graders will be a hard group of girls to replace,” said coach Daniel Rogers.

  • Carmichael's grand slam highlights rout

    Zachary Carmichael’s third-inning grand slam capped a 12-run explosion for the Mustangs as they easily defeated visiting Washington County, 14-1 last week.


    Leading only 2–1 entering the inning, Dusty Puckett singled, Jacob Crouch doubled, driving in one, and Brice Stockton belted a two-run home run.

  • SOFTBALL: Lady Mustangs finish second

    The Anderson County Middle School softball team ran its overall record to 14-8, finishing second in the Bluegrass Softball Conference Postseason tournament.

     The team was the second seed heading into the tournament, based on regular-season conference standings.  Friday, Anderson defeating Georgetown 12-0 in 3 innings.

    Saturday, the Lady Mustangs faced off against the No. 3 seed, Bourbon County, going to extra innings before winning 12-11.  Anderson scored seven runs in the bottom of the sixth to erase a six-run deficit.

  • BASEBALL: Mustangs continue to roll

    The Anderson County Middle School baseball team won three of four games at home last week to raise its season record to 21 – 3. 


    Taking on St. Dominic for the third time this season, the Mustangs jumped out to an early lead and rolled to a 10-5 victory. Caleb Chambers and Brett Thompson combined to limit the visitors to only two hits while striking out four. Chris Toomey and Brice Stockton each scored twice. Dusty Puckett and Toomey each had two hits for the Mustangs.
