  • Mustangs run record to 18-2

    The Anderson County Middle School baseball team scored come-from-behind victories over Marion County, 7-6, and Oldham County, then whipped St. Dominic last week to run their record to 18-2.  Although they took an an early 2 - 0 lead over Marion, the Mustangs found themselves trailing 6 - 3 headed into their last at-bat in the bottom of the fifth inning. Catcher Brice Stockton singled, second baseman Josh Brown walked, and third baseman Christopher Sea’s single brought in one run.

  • Conference tourney runner-up

    The Anderson County Middle School eighth-grade volleyball team was runner-up in its conference tournament, held April 15.   • ACMS BASEBALL: Solid pitching carries Mustangs to victories

    For the majority of this baseball season, pitching has been strength of the Anderson County Middle School baseball team.

    It continued this week as the Mustangs added two more victories to their win total.  Brette Thompson and Wesley Jorette combined to pitch seven innings of no-hit baseball at Georgetown Middle School last week.  

    The duo struck out seven and walked four in the 9 – 2 Mustang victory.

  • ACMS BASEBALL: Ugly win caps week

    The Anderson County Middle School baseball team capped a rain-shortened week with two victories.  In a series best described as “the good, the bad, the ugly,” the Mustangs managed wins over Springfield’s St. Dominic’s Knights and Bloomfield’s Braves to raise their season record to 13 – 1.

  • The Numbers Don't Lie

    If DeAndre Liggins’ 3-point attempt in the final seconds had found the net on Saturday, Anderson County Middle School students might have had a lesson on the probability of the shot going down and the Kentucky Wildcats winning a national championship.

    While Liggins’ attempt was short and Connecticut moved on to Monday’s NCAA championship game, teachers and students at the school were in big Final Four spirit during Friday’s “Jorts Day” for seventh-graders.

  • Mustangs take conference tourney with monumental rout

    The Anderson County Middle School boys' basketball A-team took overwhelmed visiting St. Gregory of Bardstown to take the championship of the Mid-Kentucky Athletic Conference tournament last Tuesday night. The Mustangs were never threatened on the way to a 58-19 victory.

    Anderson opened the scoring on Austin Cummins' jumper and was never as much as tied. The Mustang pressure forced numerous turnovers leading to easy baskets. Cummins led all scorers with 18 points.

  • Middle school teams have strong showing in Frankfort

    The Anderson County Middle School basketball teams had good showings in the Capital City Classic, held at Elkhorn Middle School last week. The Anderson sixth- and eighth-grade teams took second place in their respective brackets.

    The eighth-graders lost to Frankfort, then defeated Louisville Crosby, Elkhorn and Lexington Traditional to get to the championship game, where they fell to Southern Middle School, of Pulaski County, 35-24. The eighth grade Mustangs are now 13-3 on the year.

  • Middle school teams key to Anderson success

    If you ever doubt the importance of a strong middle school sports program, just check back to March 10. That night, the Anderson County Middle School girls' basketball team took on Clay County in the high school state tournament.

    Or so went the joke that made its way around Lawrenceburg and found its way to Bowling Green eight months ago.
