Asbury University claimed its second KIAC Softball Tournament championship Saturday with a 4-3 victory over Indiana-Southeast. The tournament was held at Berea College. With the win, the Eagles earned a berth to the NAIA National Championship in Gulf Shores, Ala. beginning on Thursday, May 19.

It was a big weekend for Anderson County’s Turpin family during the Mid-South Conference baseball and softball tournaments.

Jeremy Turpin, a sophomore infielder, collected three hits, walked twice and drove in two runs as St. Catharine upset top-seeded Campbellsville 9-3 on Friday night. He had another hit in an 8-7 win over the University of the Cumberlands, but was 0-for-3 with a walk as St. Catharine fell to Shawnee State, 8-4 in the winner’s bracket final Sunday.

Vicki Peavler was in the Prudential Center in Newark, N.J., last weekend, but chances are people watching the Kentucky Wildcats take care of Ohio State and North Carolina at home saw more of the last-minute heroics from Brandon Knight and DeAndre Liggins.

“Scott Padgett and his wife were directly in front of us,” she says of one of the heroes of Kentucky’s last national championship team in 1998. “When I was hiding my eyes in the last few minutes, she was updating me on the score.”

The Kentucky Christian University men’s basketball team will begin play in the National Christian College Athletic Association Division II tournament on Tuesday March 8 against Lancaster Bible College. If the eighth-seeded Knights win that game, they will play top-seeded Grace Bible College on Thursday, March 10 at 2 p.m., Central Time. The tournament is being held on the campus of Central Bible College in Springfield, Missouri.
