  • Lady Bearcas turn tables on Owen

Anderson County got revenge on Owen County in a big way Monday night when the Lady Bearcats rolled 54-36 at Owenton.

Anderson turned things around from Owen’s 54-41 victory on Jan. 22. That had been Anderson’s first loss to an Eighth Region team since 2009 and knocked Anderson’s aura of regional invincibility to the ground.

  • Lady Bearcats heat up, rout...

It appears that Anderson County heated up before the weather did.

The Lady Bearcats torched visiting Woodford County with an 8-0 start and kept up the heat with one of their best defensive efforts of the season on the way to an easier-than-expected 54-39 win Friday night.

Eriel McKee led Anderson with 16 points and, it seemed at least, as many steals and deflections.

  • Bearcats able to smile as losing...

You just thought you had seen everything that could happen to Anderson County basketball happen in 2011.

Until three minutes remained in the first half of Saturday night's homecoming game with Grant County, that is. Leading 22-21, the Bearcats appeared to have made a defensive stop. A layup attempt by Grant's Xavier Thompson rolled around the rim.

And rolled. And rolled, getting slower. Finally, the ball came to a complete stop on the bracket holding the rim to the backboard. Such a situation calls for a jump ball but Grant retained possession.

  • Anderson swimming has good...

The Anderson County High School swimming team made its biggest splash ever in the Region 3 meet, held Friday and Saturday at Falling Springs Recreation Center in Versailles.

The Bearcat boys scored 26 points, the highest total ever for an Anderson team at the regional meet. The Bearcats finished 14th in a field of over 20 teams.

The Anderson girls were shut out of the scoring.

  • Rogers signs with Midway

Kemper Rogers, a senior at Anderson County High School, has signed an NAIA national letter-of-intent to play soccer at Midway College.

Rogers recently signed during a ceremony at Anderson County High School.

  • Soccer to change overtimes in...

Boys’ and girls’ soccer matches tied after regulation will be resolved using newly revised overtime procedures beginning with the 2011-12 school year. The Kentucky High School Athletic Association Board of control approved a measure at its regular meeting last Monday that will apply a uniform tie-breaker procedure, depending on the type of contest.

    Coaches vs. Cancer a success

Fans were able to buy shirts, bracelets and cutouts as well as give directly to the American Cancer Society at the event. Both teams had sponsors who purchased T-shirts for players to wear during warmups.
