  • Lady Bearcats work overtime to...

    Anderson County needed an overtime period, but the Lady Bearcats posted a 61-58 win in girls' basketball action at George Rogers Clark on Saturday afternoon.

    Lindsay Fultz and Makenzie Stoner led Anderson with 16 points each as the Lady Bearcats improved to 13-3 on the year. Tiffany Davenport added 14 points while Fultz pulled down 11 rebounds.

  • Lady Cats can get good advice...

    If the Anderson County girls’ basketball players need any advice, they only need to look at some of their good friends and classmates that play on the school’s boys’ team.

    Chances are they would tell them, “No distractions.”

    At least that is what the Bearcats were saying before the season started and quite a bit of it had to do with a nice little victory at Shelby County in January of 2008 turning into a major league fanny-kicking two months later.

  • Young gun helps shoot down...

    As Anderson County’s first win over Shelby County since the last century was slipping away with every possession, seventh-grader Eriel McKee decided enough was enough.

    “I guess she hasn’t been around long enough to know we aren’t supposed to beat Shelby County,” Anderson coach Tony Kays said with a laugh.

  • Bearcats continue winning ways

    UPDATED Saturday, Feb. 7, 11 p.m.

    Anderson County put on a defensive clinic Saturday night, defeating visiting McCreary Central 55-35. Anderson limited one of Kentucky's best-shooting teams to 30 points below its average as the Bearcats improved to 16-4 and extended their winning streak to seven games.

    “I thought our defense was tremendous,” said Anderson coach Glen Drury.

    Offensively, C.J. Penny led the Bearcats with 21 points and 11 rebounds.

    Aaron Watts paced McCreary with 17 points.

  • Lady Bearcats clinch district...

    The top seed in the girls' 30th District basketball tournament belongs to Anderson County this year. The Lady Bearcats clinched the top spot with a 62-53 win over visiting Shelby County Friday night.

    Anderson built a lead that grew to as many as 17 points early in the third quarter, then held off a furious Shelby rally to improve to 12-3 on the year. Shelby fell to 8-12.

    Tiffany Davenport led Anderson with 17 points, while Lindsay Fultz scored 16. Seventh-grader Eriel McKee came off the bench for 13 big points.

  • Bearcats to play Spencer...

    UPDATED Thursday, Feb. 5, 7:45 a.m.  Anderson County will host Spencer County in boys' high school basketball action Thursday, Feb. 5 at 7:30 p.m. The game had been originally scheduled for Jan. 27, then rescheduled for Feb. 3, but was canceled both times.

    The game is a 30th District Tournament seeding game. With a victory, Anderson will sew up the top seed in the 30th District Tournament for the second consecutive year.

  • Christy Gemmell is still full-...

    CINCINNNATI — It was after a loss that Christy Gemmell showed she could be a big-time winner.

    “I saw Christy in the (Eighth) regional final last year and she really took it hard when Anderson County lost,” remembers Asbury College women’s basketball coach Bart Flener. “I liked that. She does not like to lose and she wants to do something about it.”

    For Gemmell, though, that last-minute loss to Simon Kenton meant no more opportunities to do something about it at the high school level.

  • Top seed on line as Lady Cats...

    Anderson County will be trying to make some major changes on Friday night.

    The Lady Bearcats will be hosting Shelby County in a game that will decide the top seed in the 30th District Tournament, which will be held the last week of February.

    While the Lady Bearcats and Lady Rockets don’t generate the same fan interest as the schools’ boys’ teams, it is still the biggest game on either team’s schedule.
