Several earn title of Fastest Kid in Anderson County
The Fastest Kid in Anderson County Race was run on Main Street in Lawrenceburg during the Anderson County Burgoo Festival on Sept. 28. The event was hosted by the Lawrenceburg Lion's Club. Trophies were awarded to the fastest two runners in each age group and medals were awarded to all participants.
The Fastest Kid in Anderson County in the 5-and-under age group was Brian Lunsford II. Starly Cornett placed second.
This time, the third set was the charm for Shelby County volleyball.
The Lady Rockets grabbed a quick lead then held off every charge a determined Anderson County team could muster in the match-changing set, then closed things out in the fourth to earn their first district championship since 2009.
After splitting the first two games, Shelby took a quick lead, expanded it to as many as five points, but held off several furious Anderson charges. The Lady Bearcats, however, could never get closer than two points as Shelby earned a 25-19 victory in the third game.
SHELBYVILLE – Collins showed why it has climbed into the state’s top five boys’ soccer teams last Thursday.
The Titans downed Anderson County, 3-0, in the 30th District Tournament championship match, held at Collins.
The Titans dominated in every way to move to 16-1-2 on the year. Anderson fell to l0-10-0. Both teams were to play in the Eighth Region tournament Monday night at various sites.
Mark Peach knew what his post-game speech would be as soon as Ryan Timmons turned the corner Friday night.
Peach knew that Anderson would not catch Timmons as he raced to his district-clinching – and legend-sealing – kickoff return Friday night at Franklin County.
Timmons had snatched a monumental victory from the Bearcats on the last play of the game. Peach was determined it would not be a monumental defeat for his team.
“We can’t let this one turn into two losses,” Peach told his team Friday.
The Anderson County Bearcat basketball team will be playing like the pros next month.
The Bearcats will participate in a scrimmage with Southwestern on Saturday, Nov. 3 at Bankers Life Fieldhouse, the home of the NBA’s Indiana Pacers. Tip-off is at 2:30 p.m.
The Pacers will be playing the Sacramento Kings, who feature former University of Kentucky players DeMarcus Cousins and Chuck Hayes along with former Louisville Cardinal Francisco Garcia.
Tipoff for the Pacers-Kings game is 7 p.m.
The Anderson County Bearcat basketball 5K run/walk is set for Saturday, Oct. 27 at 9 a.m. The race will start behind Anderson County Middle School and will be a mostly flat course and will be controlled by police. There will be a water stop at the halfway point and refreshments will be available at the end of the race.
The Lawrenceburg Lion’s Club hosted the 5K Run/Walk for Sight during the Burgoo Festival to raise money to buy eye glasses for the underprivileged people in Anderson County, the organization announced.
The fastest runner in the event was Steven Richardson of Lawrenceburg, who ran the course in 19 minutes and 57 seconds.
Second was Bryan Cummins of Lawrenceburg with a time of 20:57. Third was Gary Green of Frankfort in 22:17.
