  • SOCCER: 'Kentucky'...

Jason Earnest might have taken something from John Calipari's playbook Monday night.

Seeing his Anderson County girls' soccer team deadlocked in a scoreless tie with Shelby County early in the second half of the 30th District Tournament semifinal, Earest simply called “Kentucky.”

Grace Casciola delivered a perfect corner kick to Madeline Wilson, who drove the ball home with 35:15 to play.

  • FOOTBALL: Bearcat defense meets...

Anderson County gladly accepted the challenge and met it Friday night.

The Bearcat defense clamped down on West Jessamine's Devin Taylor, limiting the state's leading rusher to 81 yards on the ground as the hosts registered a 24-6 district win in football action.

Taylor came into the game averaging 256 yards a game and was also the leading scorer in Class 5A, averaging 18 points a game. He did not find the end zone Friday night.

  • FOOTBALL: State's top...

Anderson County's defensive game plan for Friday night could be an exercise in futility before it ever gets tested.

    The mission? Stop Devin Taylor.

The odds of that happening? Oh, roughly equal to the chances of going through the grocery store checkout line without reading something about the Kardashians.

    It ain't gonna happen.

  • FOOTBALL: Nothing fancy, nothing...

VERSAILLES – There would be nothing strange happening at Woodford County Stadium Friday night.

    Anderson County saw to that.

Well, almost nothing. Woodford County got hit with a delay of game penalty when the Yellow Jackets' homecoming festivities went a bit too long at halftime, but all that did was shorten Anderson's march to the inevitable, a 38-3 romp past Woodford in high school football action.

Notes written on a water tower...

OK, not really, but I can't let the fall sports season go any further without commenting on the new face watching Anderson County sporting events.

In case you have not been to any Bearcat football or soccer games there is a permanent spectator to the northwest of Hollie Warford Stadium and from this corner, it is a great addition.

  • VOLLEYBALL: Lady Bearcats take...

SHELBYVILLE – Rivalry contests are supposed to induce nail-biting, hair-pulling and just about every other form of self-destruction but last Thursday's volleyball match between Anderson County and Shelby County might have taken things to some new extremes.

The Lady Bearcats outlasted Shelby in a key 30th District contest, 3-2 in games and did so on a night when neither team forged a lead of more than seven points. Anderson finally did that in the tie-breaker, jumping out to an 8-1 lead in the fifth game.

  • ONLINE EXTRA: Bearcat golfers...

Three days after the fact, the reality of the Anderson County boys' golf team qualifying for the state tournament still had not totally taken hold of the Bearcats.

“It is a lifelong dream. It hasn't really sunk in yet,” senior Nick Wilson said Thursday, as the Bearcats gathered at Wild Turkey Trace for a practice.

  • Sports schedule correction

The Anderson County girls' soccer team will be playing Franklin County Wednesday night, Oct. 7 with the varsity playing first at 5:30 p.m. Junior varsity will be after the varsity game.

The Lady Bearcats will also be playing Bardstown on Saturday, Oct. 5 at 7 p.m. with no junior varsity game being played.

  • VOLLEYBALL: Lady Cats place high...

Anderson County placed second in the silver bracket of the Second Annual Volleyball SMASH Tournament, held at the high school Friday and Saturday. Eight additional teams participated with LaRue County being crowned the gold champions in a stellar performance over Madison Central for the title.

Anderson fell to Bardstown (25-19, 25-27, 15-6) for silver bracket crown.
