  • ONLINE EXTRA: Bearcats expect...

It probably won't be one of those knock-down, drag-out district grudge matches that Anderson County and Mercer County football fans got used to in the 1980s and 90s, nor will it carry the same passion as some of those old Anderson County-Harrodsburg dogfights of the 50s, 60s, and early 70s.

But that does not mean the juices won't be flowing when Anderson and Mercer tangle on the football field Friday night at Mercer.

Anderson won this one last year, 42-21, but Mercer showed some big play capabilty and has some of that speed back.

  • COLUMN: A rivalry that should be...

There is nothing like Friday nights when a rivalry is on the schedule.

Anderson County vs. Mercer County. Friday, 7:30 at the Mercer field.

You can forget about the fact that the Bearcats and Titans have only met once on the gridiron. That was last year, when Anderson delivered a 42-21 win. Jacob Russell threw for 292 yards and three touchdowns. He ran 75 yards for another score.

  • COLUMN: Rivalry now what it...

In case you haven't noticed, it looks like The Game really has become THE GAME for football in the state.

And, nothing against the schools, but we aren't talking about the Campbellsville-Union clash set for Saturday afternoon.

ABC's cameras will be focused on another showdown in Louisville that same day. And even though Kentucky has won three straight, this one really is worth talking about.

Two of those three wins – ironically, the ones in Lexington – were literally not decided until the very last play.

  • Fighting for a friend

SHELBYVILLE – There will be more tears shed around Anderson County volleyball.

Senior Nights. The final game when the Lady Bearcats are eliminated from post-season play. Maybe even when a player twists an ankle or goes diving for a dig.

All will be expected. None will be more heartfelt or lingering than those that fell last Thursday after Collins High defeated the Lady Bearcats in two games.

  • Bearcats earn huge win over...

The joy of beating an old nemesis for the first time since 2006 was intense, but short-lived for the Anderson County boys' soccer.

The 2-1 victory over Woodford County, the Bearcats' first over Woodford since 2006 and only the second in the last decade was unquestionably sweet. Fans sent phone messages and Facebook posts as soon as the final second ticked off the clock at the Anderson pitch Saturday night.

  • Meade outlasts Anderson

BRANDENBURG -- Meade County capitalized in crucial Anderson County mistakes to record a 28-21 win in football action on Friday night.

Meade picked up its first season opening victory since 2006. Anderson fell to 1-1.

  • November on Bearcat minds during...

BRANDENBURG – Everything Anderson County football did on Aug. 27 was done with an eye on November.

Everything from traveling to Meade County on the same chartered busses the Kentucky Wildcats often use down to noting what happened after the game had ended was pointing to November 5, when the state playoffs start, and beyond.

That is why Anderson coach Mark Peach, as intense a competitor as has ever graced a sideline, could smile after Meade's 28-21 win and say, “We'll be fine.”

  • Crane making mark as local...

It’s still hot but at least fall is coming. Of course with fall brings the opening of many different hunting seasons, cooling waters to fish in and leaves turning colors to enhance the scenery. Like I’ve written before, there’s just nothing like the sights, sounds and smells of being in the woods in the fall enjoying God’s creations to the fullest.
