  • Disc golfers really do Slide and...

It would not be often that a golfer's score on a single hole would be above the temperature outside. It would be even more rare to find a golfer who would not be too upset over such a scenario.

But the second annual Slide and Glide tournament put on by the Lawrenceburg Disc Golf Association on Saturday might be the exception.

When a group of 32 golfers teed off on the Anderson County Community Park course, the temperature stood at 6 degrees. By the time they had finished 36 holes, it had warmed up to a balmy 26 degrees, according to Rex Richardson, a spokesman for the association.

  • Deer season ends with record...

Kentucky’s 2010-11 white-tailed deer season ended over the Martin Luther King Jr. holiday weekend with archers posting two all-time harvest records.

“There was an archery record set for the month of January (2,683 deer) and for the season (16,636 deer),” said David Yancy, deer biologist for the Kentucky Department of Fish and Wildlife Resources.

Archery hunters harvested 413 antlerless deer and 253 antlered bucks over the holiday weekend.

  • More gun control is not the...

I really try to stick to topic when writing my monthly column but when events occur like the Arizona shooting earlier this month it’s hard to not voice my concerns. Really, in my opinion, I’m still within the bounds of an outdoor column due to the gun-related issues at hand so I’ll ramble a minute.
