    There are so many different hats to wear when writing local sports. Usually, they all fit together very nicely and all is well.

    Sports writers are fans. Don't let anyone tell you differently. Most of all they are fans of the games. If they were not, they would be writing about lesser things like gas prices, budget deficits and other things that are secondary to March Madness.

    The Anderson County Middle School Mustangs held their annual football banquet recently, celebrating a stellar 2010 season and two-year run as one of Kentucky's best middle school teams.

  • Anderson archers sweep regional...

    The Anderson County archery teams swept the Region 7 archery tournament, held Friday in Nicholasville.

    The Anderson County High School team took the team championship with 3,341 points, while the Anderson County Middle School team finished in first place in that division with 3,294 points. Sixth-graders from the middle school also won the elementary team division with a score of 3,139.

  • Sports briefs for March 9

     

    Recreation Tee Ball and Softball registrations

    The Anderson County Department of Parks and Recreation will be holding registrations for tee ball and girls' softball on Saturday, March 12 from 10 a.m. until 1 a.m. and Saturday, March 19 from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m. at Stratton Building in Community Park.

    Tee ball is available for boys and girls, ages 4-6. Softball is available for girls, ages 5 through high school seniors.

    The fee for playing is $60 for the first child in a family and $50 for each additional child.

    WARSAW – For the fourth consecutive year, Anderson County made the girls' Eighth Region Tournament basketball game.

    The Lady Bearcats assured themselves of a shot at repeating their Sweet 16 appearance of last season with a 47-44 win over Owen County on Friday night at Gallatin County High School.

    The contest bore little resemblance to the first two games the teams played when both teams won easily on the other team's home court. Instead, this one was never certain until Anderson's Eriel McKee swiped a length-of-the-court pass as time expired.

  • Walton-Verona upsets Lady...

    Walton-Verona's Courtney Sandlin sank a 10-foot jumper with 12 seconds to play giving her team a 40-39 win over defending regional titlist Anderson County in the girls' Eighth Region basketball tournament final at Gallatin County High School.


    Walton-Verona, now 25-8, advances to next week's state tournament at Bowling Green. Anderson, which was shooting for the school's first-ever regional repeat, finished at 23-9.

    WARSAW – For the fourth consecutive year, Anderson County will be playing in the girls' Eighth Region Tournament basketball game.


    The Lady Bearcats assured themselves of a shot at repeating their Sweet 16 appearance of last season with a 47-44 win over Owen County on Friday night at Gallatin County High School. Anderson will play 32nd District champion Walton-Verona, which upset regional favorite South Oldham by an identical 47-44 count in overtime in the first game of the night.

  • Rams Roll to KCSAA state tourney...

    The Christian Academy of Lawrenceburg Rams swept through the Kentucky Christian Schools Athletic Association state tournament last weekend at the Kentucky Basketball Academy in Lexington. The two-day tournament showcased some of the best Christian school talent in the state in three divisions, with the Rams coming out on top in the Class 2A division.

    The Christian Academy of Lawrenceburg volleyball team split four matches in the Kentucky Christian School Athletic Association state tournament, held Friday and Saturday at the Kentucky Basketball Academy in Lexington.
