  • UK looking to Stoops for new...

The excitement over the University of Kentucky's hiring of Mark Stoops as its new head football coach isn't confined to a loyal fan base.

While the Big Blue Nation has been abuzz since UK athletic director Mitch Barnhart announced, via Twitter, that Stoops had been hired last Tuesday, those who have worn the Blue and White on Saturdays might be even more excited about the guy with the famous football name taking on the challenge of turning around the Wildcats' football fortunes.

  • Dickerson fond of former coach...

There are probably few people in Kentucky that wanted Joker Phillips to succeed as Kentucky football coach than Jason Dickerson.

The Anderson County resident played at Kentucky and for much of that time, Phillips served as an assistant coach under Rich Brooks. It pained Dickerson to see Kentucky's football fortunes slip so badly under Phillips' watch.

  • Maggard, Dickerson like Barnhart...

Freddie Maggard and Jason Dickerson are both pleased with the way athletic director Mitch Barnhart went about hiring Mark Stoops as the new University of Kentucky football coach. While Stoops acknowledged during his introductory press conference that he reached out to Barnhart first, there is little doubt that the search was Barnhart's.

  • Wrestling: McDaniel leads Mat...

The Anderson County High School wrestling team continued its impressive early-season showing, winning four of five matches in the Wayne County Duals, held Saturday.

Chris McDaniel (126 pounds) led the Bearcats with a perfect day. McDaniel scored pins in each of his five bouts. Taylor Logsdon and Alex Swartz put four opponents' shoulders on the mat and won all five bouts. Cody Dillow also won all five of his bouts with three pins.

All four of the Anderson team captains had perfect days. Andrew Goodlett and Jonah Perry both won all five of their matches, while Travis Walling took all four bouts he wrestled and Clay Bowman won all three of his bouts.
