  • Dance teams win in Baton Rouge,...

The Anderson County High School and Anderson County Middle School dance teams claimed first place a the South Central U.S Finals, held Saturday in Baton Rouge, La.

The team members received jackets, a trophy and banner commemorating the championship. A film of the team's performance has been sent to JamFest headquarters for final judging for the national championship winners, which will be announced on May 22.

No other details were available at press time.

  • Leap of faith

Now, those closest to Ryan Ratliff have solved a bit of the question about one of his favorite activities as a young child: Why did he love constantly jumping from couch to couch in his family’s house?

  • Lady Bearcats get win in Alabama...

The Anderson County softball team got a much-needed win Wednesday when the Lady Bearcats defeated Whitesville Trinity 6-5 at Gulf Shores, Ala. The Lady Bearcats broke a four-game losing streak with the win.

Anderson will play and perennial powers Gulf Shores and Robertsdale, Ala. on Friday before heading home.

  • COLUMN: NCAA has problems but...

Not that the NCAA has been asking, but I think I have some answers for the Big Brother of college sports.

Namely, I have some answers for the NCAA, but I doubt they will listen.

First, eliminate any talk of NCAA tournament expansion. You know that they are talking 96 teams now.

    Say that real slowly.

    N-i-n-e-t-y  s-i-x.

And I thought the people who are leading universities were smart. Ninety-six teams in the NCAA tournament?

  • Bearcats see potential in win...

Anderson County knew it had potential. The Bearcats had known long before baseball practice started on Feb. 15 that they had the tools to turn back-to-back regional championships into a three-peat.

But there had also been early-season inconsistency, questions about pitching depth and the corner outfielders.

For one night, at least, Anderson put some of those questions to rest with a 5-3 home-field win over highly-touted Bullitt East, a team that had been ranked in the state's Top 10 in the pre-season and boasted two of Kentucky's top 50 players.

  • An unfortunate lesson in giving

There was a crucial softball lesson emerging from Anderson County's 8-5 loss to visiting Lafayette last Wednesday.

“You can't make the kind of mistakes we made against a great team and still expect to win,” Lady Bearcat coach Brian Glass said with a smile that defied how his team, ranked 18th in the state, had seen one slip through its gloves.

  • Dance team to participate in...

The Anderson County High School dance team totally understands how important the University of Kentucky’s basketball win over North Carolina was back in December.

On the same day the Wildcats were putting a bit of distance between themselves and their closest challenger for reaching 2,000 wins first, the Dance Cats were making a bit of history of their own next door in Lexington’s Heritage Hall.

Anderson took first place in the JamFest Winter Jam, earning a spot in the U.S. Finals, to be held this weekend in Baton Rouge, La.

I have seen a report saying Joker Phillips did not like the pace of his workout today. If so, WOW!  They were moving a lot when I was there but I did leave before the rains came.  Going to be interesting.
