Today's Sports

  • FOOTBALL: Holloman laying...

Nearly everyone who follows Kentucky high school football knows at least a little bit about Anderson County's resurgence.

The numbers say that Anderson has put together a 64-20 record since the start of the 2007 season. That's winning at a 76 percent clip. Over that same time span, the Bearcats have won three district championships, including 2013, and have been district runner-up the other four years. There has been a trip to the state championship game in the mix, too, a trip many programs never experience.

  • CROSS COUNTRY: Brumley makes...

WINCHESTER – Jacob Brumley made the best of his last shot.

Make that his only shot at qualifying for the state cross country meet.

The Anderson County High School senior, running cross country for the first time this year, turned in a solid performance of 18:38.83 at the Class 3A, Region 6 meet at Lykins Park in Winchester.

  • FOOTBALL: Collins explodes early...

Collins scored just 44 seconds into the game, starting an avalanche over Anderson County Friday night.

What was expected to be a close football game turned into a 49-10 rout in the regular season finale for both teams. Both finished the year at 8-2 and head to the state playoffs as district winners.

“We were outplayed and outcoached in every way tonight,” Anderson coach Mark Peach said.

  • COLUMN: The plight of being just...

You you think you've got a lot to worry about, consider the plight of Tim Buchanan.

You've heard of him, or at least his plight.

You see, his high school football team is just too good. Or, in the eyes of one person, too big and bad.

By now you have heard about Buchanan's team, the Aledo Bearcats of Fort Worth, Texas, routing Western Hills High, also of Fort Worth, 91-0 in a football game two weeks ago.

    Repeat. 91-zip.

  • FOOTBALL: Tough tourney tuneup...

You have to hand it to Mark Peach and Jerry Lucas. The head football coaches at Anderson County and Collins high schools had no intention of letting their teams have an easy for the final regular-season football game.

The teams go at it for the first time Friday night in Shelbyville. Kickoff is set for 7:30 p.m.

It is unarguably one of the marquee games in Kentucky this weekend.

  • AMS runners impress at state

Anderson County Middle School runner Elle Buser was just 2/10 of a second off her personal-best time and school record in the state middle school cross country meet Saturday at Masterson Station Park in Lexington.

Buser, who, earlier this year, broke a school mark that had stood since 1982, turned in a 16:25.20 for the 4K race and finished 28th out of 364 runners. Buser is an eighth-grader.
