  • Lady Cats advance to region

Anderson County left little doubt about its approach to the post-season with a 15-0 rout of visiting Eminence in the first round of the 30th District softball tournament on Monday night.

The Lady Bearcats scored three times in both the first and second innings, then ended things with a nine-run outburst in the third, pounding seven hits and taking advantage of four Lady Warrior errors to invoke the “mercy rule.”

“We talked about (getting to the 15-run lead),” said senior first baseman Lauren Brown, who had a pair of hits and two RBI.

  • Hamrick falls, will still play...

FRANKFORT -- The Cinderella run struck midnight for Kristen Hamrick, but there’s still another ball to attend.

Hamrick lost to Franklin County High School’s Sara Kellerman in the Region 8 girls’ tennis championship match 6-1, 7-5. Hamrick, a senior from Anderson County High School, was the region’s seventh seed, and thanks to making it to the regional championship match, will still have a place in the state tournament held in Lexington.

“(Kellerman) played really well, and I did my best,” Hamrick said.

  • COLUMN: Hamrick looks upward to...

To Kristen Hamrick, suffering a loss in the regional championship match really wasn't the end of the world.

She had already been guaranteed a spot in this week's state tennis tournament with an impressive run to the final – think eight sets, six of which were of the 6-0 variety – and advancing farther than any Anderson County girls' player ever has.

  • Bearcats close regular season...

Anderson County wrapped up the regular-season portion of its baseball campaign with a pair of impressive wins, including an 8-4 victory over 18th-ranked Western Hills last Thursday. The Bearcats entered post-season play at 17-11 and appear to be playing their best baseball of the season.

Saturday, the Bearcats got a strong pitching performance from senior Daniel Goodlett as Anderson defeated Woodford County 5-4 in the annual season-ending contest at Versailles.

    UPDATED, WEDNESDAY, MAY 19, 10:50 P.M.

Anderson County's Kristen Hamrick played almost flawless tennis to defeat North Oldham's Caitlyn Hickey in the Region 8 girls' tennis regional semifinal on Wednesday. Hamrick moves on to the regional final, continuing an unlikely run through the tournament by winning her second consecutive match against a higher-seeded foe.

  • Earning respect? Anderson...

FRANKFORT – The call for respect might be one of the most overused motivational ploys in all of sports, but it worked for Anderson County tennis on Monday.

Stung by what they perceived as a bigger disrespecting than Aretha or Reba ever got, the Bearcat and Lady Bearcat singles' tennis players turned in one of the best days ever for Anderson at the regional tournaments being held in Frankfort. All of the Anderson singles advanced to the second round, with two moving on to the regional quarterfinals, played Tuesday after press time.

  • COLUMN: Why Anderson teams will...

It all starts for real Monday night at Anderson County High School.

The Bearcats and Lady Bearcats begin their quests for state tournament berths as they will be hosting the 30th District baseball and softball tournaments, respectively. It is believed to be the first time that both tourneys have been held at Anderson at the same time.

  • Young Lady Cats strike to win...

The clouds did not break until lightning struck for the Anderson County freshman softball team Saturday evening.

Jessie Crouch ripped a double to left field to drive in Haley Burgin for the winning run in a 3-2 walk-off victory over Owensboro Catholic in the championship game of the Anderson County Invitational Tournament.
