  • Early Anderson deluge makes for...

About 10 minutes prior to the kickoff of Anderson County's district football opener with Grant County last Friday, the gray sky dropped a steady rain on Hollie Warford Stadium.

The minor nuisance lasted only a short time but a major storm really was brewing. It wore red jerseys and white pants and was still smarting from a game that had been snatched away seven days before.

  • COLUMN: No coach-speak needed...

When someone has been around this business as long as I have, he can usually decipher coach-speak.

You know the routine. Coach speak – Rex Ryan not included – has become even more widespread with the Internet making nearly every publication available at the click of a button.

“They are a good football team.” Translation: “They are the next team on the schedule.”

  • Anderson County celebrates...

Anderson County celebrated homecoming with the annual parade through Lawrenceburg on Sept. 23. These are some scenes from the parade.

  • Big win, but not big enough

FRANKFORT – Every time Franklin County cleared a ball over the top or took its sweet time to get things moving Monday night, it was a lesson to remind Anderson County of the pecking order in the 25th District of girls' high school soccer.

The scoreboard recorded that Anderson earned an impressive 4-1 win over a team that was 10-3-1 heading into the match.

But it was not impressive enough.

  • Fall here but archery season...

I don’t know about the rest of you folks around central Kentucky, but I have a hard time remembering the last time we actually had fall when fall was supposed to actually be happening.

  • Bearcats roll past Grant in...

Anderson County jumped to a quick 23-0 lead, then cruised to a 46-7 homecoming win over visiting Grant County on Friday night.

The Bearcats drove 70 yards on the game's opening series with Ethan Kelly going for the touchdown from three yards out. Kelly added an interception return for a touchdown, then after Steven Sims sacked Grant quarterback Nathan Davis for a safety, Seth Carmichael's 7-yard pass to Neal Wells made it 23-0 with 3:30 still to play in the first quarter.

  • Magness Magic beats Bearcats

Anderson County had fair warning that Henry County was able to explode at any time.

There was fair warning that the Wildcats' quarterback, Luke Magness, is one of Kentucky's best and certainly the best the Bearcats would face all season. Fair warning that even though Henry competes in Class 3A and Anderson is perceived to be two notches higher at 5A,  when the teams line up, both have 11 on the field.

    No more, no less.

  • Lady Bearcats slip past Boyle in...

DANVILLE – Anderson County needed a win Saturday like a pizza needs tomato sauce and cheese.

OK, the Lady Bearcats' straits probably were not that dire, but after dropping a semi-final match in the Little Caesar's Classic, the Lady Bearcats rallied to defeat host Boyle County in the third place game of the tournament Saturday afternoon.

Anderson overcame a sluggish first half when Madison Carter scored with 10 minutes to play, then, after escaping a pair of Boyle threats, won in a 7-deep shootout. Officially, Anderson was credited with a 2-1 victory.
