    LOUISVILLE -- Anderson County found out why Pleasure Ridge Park is the state's top-ranked team and why Zach Cox is ranked as one of the nation's top 100 prospects.

    Cox silenced what had been a group of booming Anderson bats with a no-hitter, then hit a towering home run that put the game out of reach as homestanding PRP defeated Anderson 5-0 in game one of the semi-state series Wednesday night. The series is the first round of the state high school baseball tournament.

  • Celebration punctuates Bearcats...

    More than likely anyone who was awake in Lawrenceburg about 10 o'clock Thursday night heard it. It might have been enough to wake sound sleepers. It wasn't the mysterious noise behind a local car wash.

    It was the overly large, loud and long caravan of family, friends and fans following the police escort for the Anderson County baseball team or more recently the 'Eighth Region Champs!'

  • High-octane first inning fuels...

    BUCKNER - This time, it helped that Shelby County was in the other dugout.

    "Oh yeah," Anderson County senior Miranda Drury said. "Everybody was so pumped."

    Pumped?

    Fuel that would deliver the kind of results the Lady Bearcats had last Thursday would be going for 40 bucks a gallon, or more, on today's market.

  • Sloan finishes sixth at state...

    LOUISVILLE Anderson County high jumper Jordan Sloan finished sixth in the KHSAA Class AAA track meet held Friday and Saturday in Louisville. Sloan jumped 6-2 to become the first Anderson performer to score at the state meet since 2004. Sloan survived a scare when he scratched twice at 6-0 but hit his final jump at that height. He made 6-2 on his first try but missed all three attempts at 6-4. No other Anderson performer finished in the top 8, although sprinter Cody Dixon just missed the cut, finishing ninth in the preliminary heats.

  • Bearcats, Lady Cats achieve...

    Just call them the kings and queens of the diamond.

    The Anderson County baseball and fast-pitch softball teams put exclamation points on their seasons Thursday night when both captured their respective Eighth Region championships. It is the first time in Anderson County history boys' and girls' teams from the same or corresponding sports have won regional titles in the same season.

    The Lady Bearcats fast-pitch softball team rode a big first inning to a 4-0 win over archrival Shelby County for its first state tournament trip since 2002.

  • Bearcats, Lady Bearcats advance...

    The Anderson County baseball and softball teams advanced to their respective Eighth Region championship games with wins Wednesday night.

    Softball

    Anderson County 4, Oldham County 3 (14 innings)

    Miranda Drury ripped a single to left, scoring Courtney Turpin and giving Anderson County a 4-3 semi-final win over host Oldham County in a 14-inning thriller at the Eighth Region tournament Wednesday night.

    “The pitch was inside and I was able to hit it,” said Drury, who had gone hitless in five previous at-bats against Oldham star Michelle Dresselhaus.

  • Four qualify for state track meet

    UPDATED INFORMATION: Anderson's Devin Davenport's third place finish in the regional meet was good enough for a wild card berth in the state finals. Davenport jumped 41-11 at the regional.

    Sprinter Cody Dixon also made the state in the 100-meter dash. Dixon finished fourth at the region but his 11.34 time was still good enough to make the state.

  • Lady Cats advance in regional...

    BUCKNER - Even though it was the first round of the Eighth Region softball tournament, Anderson County admitted it was hard to keep its mind on the task at hand.

    True, the Lady Bearcats routed 31st District runner-up Owen County 8-0 to advance to the semifinal round at Oldham County High School. But the Lady Bearcats seemed to struggle at the plate.

    "At the plate, it was hard to stay focused," said Anderson senior Emily Ethington, who had 2 hits and a sacrifice fly.

    "Our focus wasn't real good," added Anderson coach Brian Glass.

  • Bearcats win regional opener

    NEW CASTLE - There was little celebration after Anderson County whipped Gallatin County 4-0 in Monday's Eighth Region baseball tournament opener.

    To be sure, the Bearcats were happy with the victory, the program's first in regional play since the Bearcats advanced to the regional final in 2004. It was also the current Bearcats' sixth consecutive victory.

  • Regional softball tournament...

    BUCKNER - The Eighth Region softball tournament semifinals were postponed Tuesday and will be played Wednesday, May 28 at Oldham County High School.

    Shelby County will play Simon Kenton at 6 p.m. with Anderson County scheduled to play Oldham County at 7:45 in a rematch of last year's championship game.

    The tournament final is now set for Thursday, May 29 at 6:30 p.m. at Oldham County.
